BIOS upgrade ?

I have an asus p5kplcm mobo,my concern is that currently iam running a 65nm processor on it,but will i have to update my bios in order to make 45nm processor compatible with it or will the bios automatically detect it without any adjustments ?Secondly,what is the procedure for upgrading bios have never tried it before . Will really appreciate it if PG experts guide me in this matter .

it will run 45 nm without bios updating
however, it may give an error message whenever you boot your pc
it is very easy to update Asus bios,
download "Asus update" utility from your Motherboard download page, install it,
then download latest bios of your motherboard,
run "Asus update" utility, brows your bios and continue

however, it is better that you have UPS while updating the bios, if not then update when you are 100% sure that electricity will not go,
although it will not take more than 1~2 minutes, but you have to be careful

There is no need to update your Bios on P5KPL-CM for 45nm chips. I am currently running E6300 (45nm) on it without any problems. If you want to update your bios anyway, look in the manual of the board. You can also easily update it from windows through software that comes in the CD with the board (I dont remember the name of the software but its Asus made).

@voodoo: !!!! :O everyone knows that updating the bios through the asus update utility through windows is the worse thing you can. you're never suppossed to recommend that method to anyone.

@lethal assassin: the proper way of updating your bios is:

1) Download the latest BIOS for your motherboard from:
http://pk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6nnVb6RBxd7PhGmt&templete=2

2) Extract the BIOS file from the archive

3) Copy the BIOS file onto a USB drive. do not put the file in a folder. just put it in main USB root directory

4) restart your computer, plug in the usb and go into your bios. from there i believe you have to go to Advanced>EZFlash 2.

5) The ezflash will ask you to select the bios file from the usb. Select it and press ENTER. It will automatically update the bios and reboot.

6) Update your bios settings (time, boot devices, etc..) to the way they were before.

7)Enjoy your new BIOS

Thanx guys for your help .Najeebullah dude but i guess u have directly run 45nm chip on ur mobo,whereas in my case i'll be shifting to 45nm from 65nm, so i guess bios might require few adjustment to detect new hardware

believe me, i updated more than 20 times with different Asus motherboards, recently i have update Core i7 based motherboard, Asus P6T-SE, i never faced any problem with this method

yes i know it works but it's very well known that the method is not recommended. its never really a good idea to update the motherboard through windows due to software that might conflict with the update and may render the board useless. However i do agree with the fact that whatever the method used, always have your computer running on a ups.

@lethal assassin: while the bios update may not increase the performance of your system, it may increase its stability with certain hardware. It also sometimes helps with overclocking issues. The old bios on my Rapmage Formula wasn't able to run my system stable at 4Ghz no matter what i did. The current version allows me run it at 4Ghz stable 24/7

Yup, I have not used 65nm with it before. I did not know that a motherboard supporting 65nm and 45nm CPUs will not run 45nm without bios update if one has installed a 65nm CPU on it before.. :$

Although I dont have any experience with updating asus board bios but you can rely on Voodoo comments. Updating it through EZFlash as Motogp has said is also not a hard task. So follow whichever way you want to.

najeebullah can u tell me ur bios version ,u can check it with CPU-Z,mine is 0606 so if we have the same one then i guess i wouldnt have to update then

Mine is also 0606 (03-11-2009).

both methods that @vodoo and the other guys told are ok.
soo use what evver method..
the bios does get updated!!!
no issue at all!!!
however a UPS is required just for safety!!!
