Best universities for Engineering in PAKISTAN

HEC has a very low weightage in terms of rankings

LUMS is there in the business section (expected) since it is primarily a business university.

I rate the Engineering universities in Pakistan as follows:

NUST (Isloo)
GIKI
UET
PIEAS
Mehran
NED

What I wanna know is, why is SSUET on 14th position in that list :s Isn't it a worse university than that?

I agree about GIKI being a very drab area lol If my friend didn't have another friend there, he'd die of boredom.

^Isn't Mehran not good anymore. A lot of my friends are studying there. Another one just got admission there on self basis. I also heard that teachers are not good anymore, most of them teach in Sindhi etc. They also recruit their own graduates as lecturer. Not to mention the tons of strikes + the recent crisis with Teachers Union regarding Sindh University. Politics are really ruining the education quality there. Also girls are rare , you can at least spot a chick or two in most other institutions, they are absent from MUET(According to my friends)

P.S This ranking is almost an year and half old now. It was released last year. The new ranking will be released soon enough.

Yup all studies are in Sindhi now as far as I heard.

No good roads in Pakistan doesn't mean no good Engg universities :fp2:

Corruption is more likely the cause for such poor quality of roads in most of Pakistan.

I don't know how can people live in GIKI for 4 years. That place can get dull easily. I have been to GIKI for a competition. It's a pretty limited area and unless you don't like going out, you will get bored easily. NUST is the best one IMO. They have a beautiful campus + they are near to the city of Islamabad/Rawalpindi unlike GIKI. I would never go to GIKI even in a million years

P.S can anyone tell me why there is no LUMS in the above ranking. Does this ranking even have any value at all. A lot of popular universities appear to be quite low on it.

The Rankings doesn't mention LUMS in engineering section because when this ranking was published HEC didn't recognise LUMS as an engineering university. However, this situation has changed recently and LUMS
is now fully recognised as a university offering engineering degree.

P.S: Don't rely on that pathetic ranking published by HEC! There are only two ways of knowing rankings of Pakistani universities either talk to employers in different fields/sectors or approach each university's alumni currently in employment (Don't reach out to current students of universities the information you would get would be biased to say the least).

It's not long before LUMS Electrical Engineering Program surpasses all other EE programs being offered by universities in Pakistan. SEECS (NUST) comes a close second but it needs to get its act together if it wants to compete with LUMS in the longer run.

That's coming from a person who has studied at both places.

To the OP, even if you're 100% sure you don't want to go to GIK, you should still apply. Apply EVERYWHERE, then decide between the places that actually accept you. I have to say I find it incredibly surprising that you're out right rejecting one of the top universities in the country because it won't satisfy your poond habits.

Would you mind sharing your credentials with us btw? Your O/A levels or Fsc scores, any extra curricular activities etc.
