Apologies to shabakht if he's already made a similar thread!
But I was just mulling the lack if love for scifi on PG.
Oh well, here's my list.
Contact:
Written by my favorite person of all time, Carl Sagan, and starring Jodie Foster, this is probably one of the best examples of Sci-Fi rooted on reality.
The Empire Strikes Back:
If I had to pick one movie from the original trilogy, it would be this. The darkest of the SW movies with awesome action, intrigue, betrayal and fighting with laser fucking swords!
Alien:
Aliens has more action, but this is still a better movie. Maybe it's more horror/suspense than anything else, but it did introduce us to the most bad-ass monster in all of Sci-Fi.
T2: Judgment Day:
Okay, so this is primarily an action flick, but the Sci-Fi themes in it are pretty mature. Anyone who saw this when it was originally released would remember how beyond-words the effects were for that time.
2001: A Space Odyssey:
A movie with layers and tension and themes that are still unequaled. Depending on if you're a complete idiot or someone with taste the first silent 20 minutes or so are the most boring or the most astounding in cinema.
Blade Runner:
The best. No comparison. A critique into what makes us human.
Your thoughts? I'll add more later on as well.
