I am facing the following error on my XT881:

"Authentication is required. You need to sign into your Google Account."

Things i have already tried to overcome the problem:

1. Removing and then adding the google account from settings.
2. Uninstalling the Google playstore and clearing the data/cache.

Anyhelp?

This usually happens when you use a VPN (at least for me, it did).

If not, try changing your password (while account is removed from the phone), then add it again with the new password and see.

Do factory reset remove photos and contacts? How do i back them up? Will syncing the google account save both the photos and contacts?

Photos will be removed.

Contacts will stay if they are synced with Google.

How to back them up?
You can copy pics to your PC. And contacts can easily be exported as .vcf file to your SD card / internal storage which you can copy to your PC for restore. Simply open contacts and go to menu > export to SD / Internal storage > Select all. I will take few seconds and a .vcf file will be generated (few KBs size) that can be imported on any android device.

You can import it later by opening contacts > Menu > Import contacts and select vcf file.

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
