ASUS Anti Surge is a pain in the ass

Hey there. When I am gaming, my computer restarts with this error message: https://i.imgur.com/pPrMhCYg.jpg

ERROR: Power supply surges detected during the previous power on.
ASUS Anti-Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit!

1) It happens when WAPDA gets off and my PC changes over to UPS.

2) When I am playing a game on my UPS.

I have noticed that most games work fine when WAPDA is ON and my PC doesn't restart. Nowadays I'm playing AC II, even when WAPDA is ON, I get a power surge after 5-7 minutes of gameplay.

When WAPDA was OFF and I was playing on my UPS, I played FIFA 17 for about 20-25 mins without any power surge, but when I turned to AC II, my system restarted after few minutes.

I am confident that the problem is not with AC II, because I have experienced power surges in most of the games when WAPDA is OFF.

But the thing that is bothering me is why I am experiencing power surges when the WAPDA is OK on AC II game. If the problem is with UPS, why AC II is making my PC restart when WAPDA is ON.

Power surges usually,mostly related to a power supply equipment. You need to check your poqer supply.. probably during load it get weakens.

If its anything to do with UPS then i cannot talk much on that. But try with n without ups.

2. Your PSU has 80plus rating
3. 80plus rated PSUs don't work well with non-computer rated UPS's
4. Your UPS is rated for household appliances, not sensitive equipment like computers (which is evident from long changeover and your PC crashing)
5. Your UPS is providing dirty electricity to your UPS (i.e. modified sine-wave), which has ruined your PSU


Solution:
1. Buy/try new PSU.
2. Don't use your UPS with PC, unless you can get a pure sine-wave UPS.

Okay, thanks. I'll try to play without UPS and report the result here. Then I'll change PSU and test it as well, thanks for your ideas bro.

You are right, i also have an asus board,i also get this error message sometime when pc shuts down due to load shedding.

Btw i dont use ups.

Btw, i had once got power surge warning, and that was happened during SNIPER ELITE 4 gameplay. Every component was working fine. PC got restarted with ppwer surge warning; had asus maximus VI hero board, 7850 gpu n 650WGOLD PSU.

Maybe it's board settings messing arround. Couldn't verify the actual cause behind power surge.

I will never take that as a joke, EVER!
Long user of maximus line of boards.
And trust me that warning shouldnt be taken lightly.

This warning only triggers if your power supply goes out of the allowed range.

Now whats happening here?
Either your power supply is overheading its allowed specs or its dropping below those.

What to see?
Simple enough, Head to your motherboard bios.
and check the power connection, they may not be 100% accurate but they give you a enough hint to know if its good or bad.


If you're dropping below 11.4V or going above 12.6V, For a full table please check this.
going up high or low compared to those allowance?
Your PSU is going bad.

Usually, this can also mean loose connection, Firmly place them in!
If it works, good.


If in the bios all seems fine.
but during heavy load you get it.
Then its also a bad sign.


I once took this for granted.
I sure hope you dont share the same fate.

The anti-surge is there for a reason, it triggers only if there's unstable power being supplied to the system or your pc received unstable power before turning off. Use Fully functional APC UPS(-es) only! which provides electricity in smooth sine-waves.

If however, you are sure everything's alright and want to take a huge risk, you can turn anti-surge support off, alternatively you can use surge protectors and turn off anti-surge in your bios.
