Hello there guys. Since last few months, I have grown a wish for a DSLR camera and as my result has came with a A1 grade, my father is willing to buy me a DSLR. I have researched a lot and finally decided to import a Nikon D3100's body along with a Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Autofocus Lens. I'd like you guys to advice on my preference and choice and if not a problem, enlighten me more about DSLR photography.

Dear regards;
Tarun

Price range shouldn't be a slight penny more than 55k. To be quite honest, I haven't considered local offerings to avoid the lack of Nikon lenses here and stuff. Suggest me some websites which offer a great variety of DSLRs at Pakistan if you know?

Dear Tarun your choice is good one D3100 is entry level Nikon DSLR but quite capable and great performer secondly i would suggest you to buy it locally with local warranty incase of international warranty you will have to spend alot of money and time regarding claim... Camtronix is the authorised distributor in Pakistan.
As for the camera is concerned D3100 is great wrt to ISO performance 1080p video recording and very nice vivid color reproduction, 18-105mm is a great all purpose lens will give you wide to telephoto coverage/ will give decent depth of field (background blur) as its focal length is 105mm and body is crop factor 1.5x, but for indoor portraits you can buy 35mm f1.8g later on...
for samples you can check out my flickr photostream flickr(dot)com/photos/45272150@N03/

why ur importing?
local nikon or imported nikon, lenses will be same issue :)
u can always go for Sigma HSM and Tamron Hypersonic lenses which have built in motors but mind u bro, DSLR is a system not a camera body!
Lenses r everything here, they r the eyes, the back end (body) can always be changed but lenses stay the same!
U put a cheap glass on a nikon D4S its results would be same as they were on D3100 ie pathetic and if u put a 230,000 Nikon 70-200 VRII f2.8 G lens on a D3100, its results would be same as on Nikon D4S ie brilliant and sharp!
So think before u invest
