Almost every first party launch title on Gamepass (as of yet) gives more and more merit to Sony's argument of hurting the quality of games. Redfall and Halo seem to be a clear example of that. I love how passionate Phil Spencer is for Xbox and Gamepass but I wonder how long can we keep our trust in him given that we have seen almost nothing that comes close to Sony's offerings in terms of quality.
That logic should also extend to Hi-Fi Rush which is one of the best games released this year. I do agree, however, that MS should reconsider the level of autonomy studios have over the bigger AAA releases.

MS could have technically delayed Redfall further for polish but the core of the game wouldn't have changed which they had nothing to do with. Deathloop would've launched on Game Pass as well if it wasn't a timed exclusive. Redfall was greenlit by Bethesda and has been in development well before MS acquired them. It feels like what Warner Bros is asking Rocksteady to do i.e. creating MP oriented games chasing trends that the studios are not particularly well suited for.

Still, I don't believe UE4 is to blame for sub-par performance.

Firstly, traversal stutter occurs when moving between different sections of a map. This is a side-effect of how Unreal Engine 4 handles open world environments and it occurs on every platform including PC
CerebralTiger likes to believe these problems only exist on PC, but that's factually incorrect and the engine is to be blamed here.

THIS. This is exactly what this game feels like and I agree no amount of polish could have made this game any better. It just feels like something the developers were forced to make against their passion and strengths.

Hi-Fi rush was an excellent game but Xbox needs it's own God of War, Spiderman, Horizon etc and Redfall, at least for me, was just that and it miserably failed at it. I'm pretty sure that Bethesda is to be blamed but someone at MS must have seen the state of this game and gave it a green light and that's what bothers me the most.

Just remembered the name of another favorite studio of Necrokiller's. Larian! Waiting to see how Baldur's Gate 3 turns out :LOL:

Nah, Alex found major traversal stutters on an i9-12900K that aren't there or are much less intense on consoles in Jedi: Survivor, Dead Space, Ghostwire Tokyo, and Sifu. There are more examples, of course 🤷‍♂️:LOL:

Heck, they aren't even there on Fortnite running on UE5 on PS5 and Series X, yet they are on PC. YIKES! :ROFLMAO:

LOL @ intensity. Alex literally just called traversal stutters in UE4 "garbo tier". 🤷‍♂️

Good job by Alex picking 2 recent current gen only UE4 games as examples.




THIS is why UE5 needs CDPR's expertise in designing an open world engine 🤜 :ROFLMAO:

Stuttering in games is due to the way UE engine handles shader compilation. The stuttering is worse on PC as per most 'expert' reviewers such as DF because shader compilation happens in the background with most PC ports.

Console games ship with Shader Compilations already in place. So there is less stuttering.

Simple explanation.

Personally, I prefer less stuttering to high FPS as it takes the fun out of gaming.

And that's the reason I think investing $3000+ on a gaming rig is a dumb move.

For all its technical faults, Digital Foundry did not find any shader compilation stutter in Redfall.
