Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

Just slight improvement over what we have today.
hardware wise, the consoles are pushing toward a unified market so Its kind of understandable.

Sure it might be a needed upgrade.
But then again, the quality of games have not been great lately.
PS4 have some great handful of games which are worth playing.

but the rest of the games in general, are not so memorable anymore. Greed has overrun the industry and good games come rarely.
Which is the main reason why the PS4/XBOX1 seemed mediocre at best during its run.

Lets just wait and see whats up in the future.
Agreed. Current gen of consoles have been such a disappointment, I am not sure if i will buy PS5 (bloodborne 2 or old school god of war might change that :p) or new xbox

I can say this literally about ANYTHING.
Wouldn't make it any less true. Base PS4 was outdated in 3 years. Pro will likely see a successor in 2019/2020. Just like buying a Pro is optional, so is upgrading your PC.

But actually in case of of a console, on which you spend money once every 6/7 years, it makes more sense - rather than a PC component - how does getting decent specs JUST RAM is equal to the price of PlayStation, and forget about the Graphics card...A low-mid level card is more expensive than a PS4 ...this insanity has to end
Your PC component pricing woes can be boiled down to two things (one of which will likely last much longer than the other):

1- Cryptocurrency
2- Poor deals in Germany :p

Component pricing cater to all budget brackets. If you can keep an outdated and stagnant console hardware for 6-7 years, surely you can do the same with PC as well.

Necrokiller i was waiting to upgrade from 1070 to 2070 or 1170 watever the new names will be to achieve 4K native on high but all these prices are just fged thanks to crypto currency.

i would b happy if there is a ps5 in 2019 as long as its fully backwards compatible with all ps4 games.
Darksith we don't want the cycle to end as this brings competition which is always good for the consumers.

Yeah its not the best time to upgrade at the moment. But a GTX 1070 will provide you a significantly better experience than the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Your investment will last you a long time compared to the current gen faux-K revisions.

Kotaku Sources: The PlayStation 5 Is Still A Ways Off

A recent online rumor got people buzzing about a possible 2018 release of PlayStation 5, but that’s probably not going to happen. In fact, from what we’ve heard, the next PlayStation is a ways away—it may not arrive until 2020.

Over the past month, I’ve spoken to dozens of game developers, across a variety of disciplines and studios, about the next generation of consoles. Of those, two people said they were directly familiar with plans for Sony’s new console. Those two people both told me that the next PlayStation is unlikely to release in 2019, let alone 2018, although they were careful to be clear that these plans are always shifting. “On a multi-year project, a lot can happen to shift schedules both forward and backward,” one person said. “At some point, Sony’s probably looked at every possible date. It’s all about what they think is the best sweet spot in terms of hardware.” A surprise move by Microsoft or another competitor, for example, could trigger a change in plans.

Most of the developers I spoke to, via phone and email and text, said they had not heard anything about plans for a new PlayStation. Even employees at Sony’s first-party studios said they have not yet been briefed on the existence of a PlayStation 5. People across all the disciplines (design, art, engineering, etc.) at major studios working on games scheduled for 2019 and beyond have told me that if there is information about the PS5 at their companies, they haven’t heard about it. (Those people said they haven’t heard about a new Xbox, either.)

In summary: There is information about the PlayStation 5 floating around at both first- and third-party companies, but it’s far more limited than it would be if the console’s release was imminent.

That makes the most logical sense. Hardware teases and announcement possibly sometime in 2019 with release in 2020 or Holiday 2019 at the earliest.

Zen 2 cores paired with the Navi gpu @ 7nm process! That should be the way forward. No need to rush!

Sony is working with AMD's Ryzen CPU tech - and PS5 is the most likely target

A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm's Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD's Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core's micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack - a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.

The evidence - unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix - shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the "znver1" architecture, the codename for AMD's first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer's involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule's Tearaway and Evolution Studios' DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony's Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.

Taken at face value, the fact that the platform holder is improving a key part of the developer toolchain for a new processor line that none of its products currently support is compelling evidence that Ryzen will indeed form a key component of a new console. It is certainly the most logical choice for a new CPU architecture for both Sony and Microsoft as pre-production work on next-gen hardware continues behind the scenes.

What's curious is that Sony's work is with the first generation version of the Ryzen core, while a 2019/2020 release date for a new console would fit in with the timeframe of AMD's second-gen iteration of the technology. However, the choice of technologies available to console manufacturers is based on what's available in a set time-frame and where the system architects want to spend time and effort in terms of bespoke customisations. And while the next-gen revision of Ryzen is likely to be available when new console hardware arrives, AMD's initial focus is on desktop and server versions of the technology - not the more integrated designs that end up in the APU products, which in the case of the Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G arrived almost a year after the initial Ryzen parts.

But is AMD really the best fit as Sony's technology partner for a new machines? While system architect Mark Cerny told us that Sony favours the traditional console generation model - opening the door to a clean break for a new machine with a dramatically different hardware make-up - the ability to combine Ryzen x86 CPU architecture and Radeon graphics into a single chip (and to license both key components from a single vendor) has great advantages in terms of economy, ease of development and cross-platform compatibility. With that in mind, it's no surprise that AMD is now the partner of choice for both Sony and Microsoft.

Is this our first confirmation of a crucial element of the PlayStation 5 spec? After all, the idea of Sony staff working on a compiler and improving hardware support for a technology it doesn't use in any of its current machines is indicative. However, although less likely, there may be other explanations. We checked in with R&D sources familiar with PlayStation development and the role of the Advanced Technology Group, and discovered that the team can work on various projects unrelated to hardware design. For example, they can work closely with game developers, or even with other companies associated with Sony but not necessarily working on PlayStation products. The news adds further weight to the assumption that PS5 will continue to use AMD technology, but isn't quite a smoking gun that confirms the spec.

At this stage, we're still very much in speculation territory - and indeed, Sony responded to this story to reconfirm that it doesn't comment on rumour and speculation.

Forbes: AMD's Navi architecture created for PS5

Speaking to industry sources this week under conditions of anonymity, I've learned that the PS5 will use both AMD's Zen and Navi graphics architectures. What isn't clear is whether the PS5 will incorporate a beefy SoC (system on a chip) or use separate Ryzen and Navi-based components.

Which brings us to, in my eyes, the more interesting revelation. According to my sources, Navi isn't just inside the Sony PS5; it was created for Sony. The vast majority of AMD and Sony's Navi collaboration took place while Raja Koduri -- Radeon Technologies Group boss and chief architect -- was at AMD.
Probably a specific variant of the Navi architecture is being developed in collaboration with Sony, as earlier rumors suggested.
