How good is the Stabimatic 1000va stabilizer on Czone?
I'm thinking of using it for Overvoltage/Low Voltage protection for my PC.

What'd you guys think, any help would be appreciated.
(Cant afford APC yet)

Edit: I would also like any other suggestions, budget is 6k or under, That too is stretched.
I'm living in constant fear now since the last 2 accidents.
always prefer stabilizer with servo motor ... its good for all equipments ... i think apc 1 kva will be fine for ur pc load n it ll cost u approx. 10k ...

I have two ups at home, both homage. And there are times when battery starts to give less backup, ie from 3 hours to 1.5 hours and due to this reason we have to sell that battery for around 3k in order to buy new one.
It seems unfair sometimes to let go off that battery for so cheap because it has less backup.
I was thinking of buying another ups and use the old battery to power up some LED bulbs around the bunglow during load shedding hours. This way i will make most of the older batteries and make them last 6-8 months more.

Is it cost effective? Or should i just sell them and get done with them?

There is no problem with the UPS.
Unfortunately the batteries that come here in Pakistan are not of high quality. Average life you can expect from these batteries is 2 years.
If you are facing even lower life than there can be several other factors that may be causing your batteries short life

A UPS charges batteries and keeps charging the battery until its terminal voltages are reached as per setpoint in the ups
Normally a fully charged new battery has 13.4 volts at its terminal and as the battery is used, its voltage starts dropping until it reached around 11volts where the UPS cuts of the battery supply and shutsdown the system to prevent excessive drainage of the battery

As the life of battery starts to degrade you would notice following changes
1. The UPS takes longer to charge it to full and when the life is almost zero, The UPS keeps charging it as the terminal voltage never reaches the 13+ volts due to battery degradation
2. backup time tends to reduce gradually (not suddenly)

Some important tips
1. keep connections on battery terminals tight and apply grease on them to prevent oxides forming on them
2. fill up the water in battery occasionally as per requirement (normal water works ok, better to put drain water of AC or best would be battery water)

P.S make sure that your batteries are not placed directly on the ground. they should be placed on some non conductive material ( wood or some plastic)

Thanks for info. From this, i am deducing that investing in another ups and using the older battery should not be the way to go because older battery would keep getting current for charging without getting charged. Seems futile no?

Yes, sir
You are right.

All UPS are more or less the same so it doesnt matter if you get a new UPS for squeezing more life out of the batteries
If you are getting 2 years life on batteries then its normal. You shouldnt worry about it

Hi,

I'm a complete noob to the UPS/Inverter scene.

Just bought a Homage NEON-1003 Inverter thingy (700 Watts).
Obviously it comes with no battery.

The User Manual says 12V battery, but that seems a bit vague.

If I go to a car/motorcyle battery shop tomorrow, what type of battery do I ask for?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Batteries that are used are standard electrolytic batteries (The ones that are used in trucks, cars and bikes)
You will be requiring one battery from 165AH to 200AH (AH is called the Ampere hours). higher the AH rating, longer will your battery will give backup and longer it will take to charge as well.

165AH will cost you lower and 200AH will cost you higher
Nowadays best in class is the AGS brand

I'm in the exact same boat as you right now. My PC specs are in my profile. I need a good UPS (under 10k). Would you recommend Stac 1000VA? How much did it cost and where did you buy it from?

Anyone else who might know of someting better?

I ended up breaking it into pieces out of anger due to some argument i had.

It worked fine when i had it on though.

But just get the stabmatic.
Its better than getting stac from the market.
its locally made stabilizer so that means lots of build issues.
I had to get mine changed 10 times to get a working piece. lol

edit: forgot to mention, one kick seperated the motor from the bottom enclouser.
so its better you get stabmatic, if that Stac thing dropped ur done. xD

Which Stabmatic stabilizer? I have a 750W PSU + I'll be attaching a monitor too. Any idea where I can get them from in Lahore?

Its on Czone.
and if not there.
stabmatic is famous enough be in your local electronic market.
I'd suggest first looking there before ordering from Czone.

Stabmatic 1000Va

Btw dont worry.
I also have 2 monitors + same PSU.
It worked like a charm at 1kva

Btw what's this time delay function?

The last time I saw stabilizer was 10 years ago and that took like 5 minutes to turn on. How long does this Stabimatic one take to turn on the sytem?

According to what i saw from an old and new stab is that
new one starts up within 5 seconds while older one takes 5 minutes.

So i think its the time for it to start up and stabilize the power for the output.

from what I figure its to either protect hardware from a voltage spike from a sudden start up OR just a build issue. haha

Someone more knowledgable can shed light on this.

According to stabmatics website.
Theres a split second response for the fuse against a 10% voltage difference.
and about a second of start up
Stabilizer - Stabimatic 1000 VA Servo Motor Voltage Stabilizer in Pakistan for Rs.3800.00 | Computer Zone

Compared to stac, this is faster.

So to power up my Monitor as well, I attach an Extension chord?

So I eventually went to the battery guy and asked for a 165 AH battery, he asked how much load I'd be putting?
I need the UPS for the following:
1) Modem
2) Router
3) Powerline adapter
4) DTH box
5) DVD Player
6) Cordless phone base station

He said for this load, a 165 AH battery isn't required. It's too big.
He said calculate the load and get back to me.

I haven't been back to him yet, but for the stuff I listed above, a smaller battery would obviously be more suitable.

A good size recommendation please? What other sizes are available?

Thanks. :)

Well looking at the load, your load is indeed less, all your equipments are DC powered equpiments and they require very less electricity consumption.

The size of the battery is determines the duration it will work. SO if you would be using 165AH battery, then it would last longer than a lower AH battery
A small definition what AH means is the Amphere hours. If you draw one ampere from this battery, it will work for 165 hours before discharging completely. If your load draws 2 amperes than your battery will last (165/2) = 82.5 hours

Usully 165 OR 150AH are standard batteries that are used. However, the next in line is 120AH. If you load is less than you should probably go for 120AH battery. But dont go for lower than 120AH ones. They are very small and i have never seen these smaller batteries with UPS.

Also, every size battery has a required charging amperes and they are mentioned here
http://www.exide.com.pk/Products/Automotive/Range/specifications_of_Exide_Automotive_Batteries.pdf

Now check with your inverter how much charging amperes does it provide (i tried googling but didnt help)
If you oversize the battery than your inverter has chances of being damaged, due to longer charging times
If you undersize the battery than your battery life is compromised as higher charging current will degrade battery life.
So its better that you select battery that is neither too big and neither to small.

120 to 165AH should be good. 165 is almost same as 150 so dont bother in between these two
