bro but I have made payment for GTX 670 but still have some time to think
1 X GTX 770 4GB
2X 7970 2GB each
Well, statistically speaking, no game (other than skyrim mods with custom highres frxtures) touches 3gb+ let alone 4gb.. And since vram usage is calculated at runtime by os/driver you can't run out of memory under any circumstances..

On a serious note, 7704gb is what may be called an upgrade from a 760, like i said you wont see any noticeable boost by shifting from 760 to 670.
As for 7970x2, i wont recommend it.
yeah,you are right crossfire of 7970 is not a good idea,specially nvidia GPUs have cuda and physx which is the requirement of latest games i guess.

show some temperatures pics,and bro the ultra you are playing is of your 6950 max graphics, and the ultra on the high end gpus are of their maximum graphics,and here graphics means texture filtrate,pixel filtrate and the bandwidth,that the difference bro ,the ultra settings on your gpu and the ultra setting on high end gpus,hope you understand

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit. -
