---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new edition of Final Fantasy 7 could finally be released on Steam, a leaked product description suggests.

The fresh version will include Steam features such as achievements (36 of them) and cloud saving as well as online profiles for you to compare game progress with friends.

There will also be a new Character Booster item to max-out your HP, MP and Gil levels for when you "find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down".

The new information briefly appeared on FinalFantasyVIIPC.com, a domain that Final Fantasy developer Square Enix registered on 15th June (as spotted by the GOG Forum).

The page is still visible via Google's sneaky cache.

Square Enix listed the digital download as £7.99/€9.99.

It wouldn't be the first time Square Enix has considered releasing the game on Steam. Steam registry entries for Final Fantasy 7 and 8 were discovered in June last year.

Eurogamer has asked Square Enix for comment.

But why waste time remastering it when its already been released on PC?

The original PC port is downright unplayable on today's hardware from what I understand same was the case with FF8. Probably finally making an actual functional port.

Also rumored to have achievements and cloud saves (get it, hah!).

ive played FF7 on PC and ended FF8 on it too...they work just fine except for the controls.somehow they are spread across the numpad and that makes it really confusing.still a little messing around in controls option can fix that too.to be frank i dont see any significance in this news.unless somehow the steam ver turns out to be full realization of the infamous PS3 demo, there is absolutely no reason to get exited over this.

It's better to play PS1 versions of FF VII and VIII on PC through emulators than the original PC versions.

Btw have you guys tried the texture mod for PC version of FF VII? It does improve graphics a fair bit.

^ Basically what you guys are saying is that FF VII HD version is available ONLY ON PC :D
lol technically, that applies to every FF game with the exception of XIII and XIII-2 ;)

Although, personally, I don't quite like how FFIX looks when running with the PSX emulator (plenty of geometry from the original goes missing). Sadly, it wasn't released officially on the PC.

I'm more than up for a proper FFVIII on PC. Never played VII, but I played FFVIII on PS1 13 years ago :p

Nope. They have a very valid case. The above video explains it all.

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!

Phil should be held responsible for this shitfest too, just like Sarah, but it's highly likely that these decisions are coming from Satya. And this isn't even the end of it. More closures are coming.

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.
