Today, Microsoft declared war on Sony's PS4. And its major weapon is Sony's own playbook.

Xbox is on the go , Nice stealing (sm1)

Using Sony's Playbook, Microsoft Will Attempt Xbox One's Turnaround - IGN

Today, Microsoft unleashed a torrent of news about Xbox One, tacitly revealing that it's learned plenty of lessons over the past six months. Its new console is experiencing success in the market, with over five million consoles shipped so far. But perception is all too often reality, and Xbox One has been playing second fiddle to PlayStation 4 since E3 2013. Sony has been all about games with PS4, but with Xbox One, many claim that Microsoft has done more to alienate gamers than engender their confidence. Xbox One may be selling well, but PlayStation 4 is doing much better, and Microsoft knew full well that things had to change. It needed to stop acting on flawed instincts, and start listening. And according to a series of announcements early this morning, the company has been listening, and things will indeed change. The result is making Xbox One and its various services feel a whole lot like its competition's. Then again, Microsoft has been here before.

Microsoft Considered an Xbox One With Kinect Built in the Console

Microsoft built models of this Xbox One but it never made it to market.

Microsoft once had an idea to bring Kinect to Xbox One by having the sensor built into the console itself, Xbox industrial designer Carl Ledbetter told Develop in an interview.

Obviously this design didn't make it to finalization, but it was a consideration at some point in the past and was shot down due to its size.

“We actually built models of that,” Ledbetter said. “We pushed ourselves, can we put it all in one? Is that going to work? And the technology just isn’t there yet. As soon as you have something much bigger than the Kinect sensor people don’t want to put it by the TV, it’s too big.”

The Xbox One along with its bundled Kinect launched for $499 in November 2013 though Microsoft recently announced that it will provide people an option to buy an Xbox One without Kinect for $399 starting June 9.

[h=1]Xbox One Controller Receives Official PC Drivers[/h]

Drivers are available right now.

Microsoft has finally released PC drivers for its Xbox One controller, Major Nelson announced today. The new drivers will be a part of a future Windows update but PC users can download them early via the blog.
Drivers for x86 and x64 versions are currently available.

"We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller," Major Nelson's Larry Hryb said.

"We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks. The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller.

"Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you’ll be gaming in no time."

In March, Microsoft's Albert Penello said that it's possible that the company may release a new PC SKU of the Xbox One controller, similar to how it sold a PC version of the Xbox 360 controller. He also said that they're looking at options to enable wireless mode for the PC.

[h=1]Microsoft: Family Sharing, Pre-Loading for Xbox One on Road Map[/h]

If Family Sharing returns, it will be done "in the right way."

Just a little over a year ago, Microsoft reversed its online-only DRM policies for the Xbox One after much criticism when the console was unveiled in May 2013. When the company enacted those changes just after E3 2013, it also eliminated Family Sharing, a promising feature that would allow Xbox One owners to share their digital library for up to ten members. In theory, it would be similar to Valve's Steam Family Sharing that launched in September 2013.

Speaking on the Gamertag Radio podcast, head of Xbox Phil Spencer says that it could come in the future.

"We looked at the digital features that we had talked about last year and as a gamer, there were a lot of those features that I think really resonated and were smart features for people who really have a lot of games and maybe play on a couple consoles or have bunch of people in the house or want to share with friends," said Spencer. "As I look at our monthly update roadmap, those kind of features are in our roadmap. There is a little bit of a challenge now that you've got DRM on a disc.

"I haven't given up on those ideas. There's some complexity now that you've got these discs that have DRM that you've got to figure out. But it's definitely part of our [roadmap] with the overall product."

During the interview, it was suggested that perhaps Family Sharing could return only for digital games, but Spencer indicates that it would be unfair to those that bought physical versions. He adds that it's not the only reason why Microsoft isn't doing Family Sharing, but if it ever comes, it will be done "in the right way."

Spencer also says that Microsoft is looking into introducing digital pre-loads for the Xbox One. The ability to pre-load games is available now on PlayStation 4.

Have you ever looked at a game and thought “Boy, I’d sure love to try that game before I buy it, but I still want to pay my dues.” Well thanks to EA, now you can! The demo for FIFA 14 and EA Sports UFC are currently $4.99 on Xbox One. That’s right — they’re charging for demos. Now, the demos for these games were originally free, which makes this situation quite odd. While it could easily be a simple pricing error, it does seem questionable for a pricing error to occur on something that doesn’t usually have a price — let alone two separate ones. Especially given that the price tag is $4.99 and not $59.99 or something less random.
Hopefully this ends up being a holiday weekend pricing error and not a new trend. We’ll follow the story and update you as applicable.
Here’s screenshots of the Xbox Marketplace reflecting the pricing structure:

What the actual fu** EA and MS....I say MS aswell casue they are free on PS4..so both EA and MS are making you pay for freaking demo ..I really hope this is an error or something

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
