Microsoft is focusing on games that bring “fright and delight” to players in October — in advance of Halloween — for Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that eight games will be added to the service throughout the month, including Destiny 2: Beyond Light for Windows PC, the psychological horror game Visage, and co-op shooter Back 4 Blood.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, a physics-based battle sim from Landfall Games, kicks off the new wave of games with its release Tuesday on Xbox Game Pass. The other seven games will come throughout the month. Here’s when and where to expect them:

  • Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 7
  • The Procession to Calvary (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 7
  • Visage (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 7
  • Back 4 Blood (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 12
  • Destiny 2: Beyond Light (Windows PC) — Oct. 12
  • Ring of Pain (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 14
  • The Riftbreaker (Cloud, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X and S) — Oct. 14
  • The Good Life (Cloud, console, Windows PC) — Oct. 15
On Oct. 15, a bunch of games will also leave Xbox Game pass.

  • Gonner2 (Cloud, console, Windows PC)
  • Heave Ho (Windows PC)
  • Katana Zero (Cloud, console, Windows PC)
  • Scourgebringer (Cloud, console, and Windows PC)
  • Tales of Vesperia HD (Console and Windows PC)
  • The Swords of Ditto (Windows PC)

Subscriber growth for Microsoft's signature gaming service, Xbox Game Pass, was slower than the company hoped for in the past year, according to a new financial filing.
For the 12 months that ended on June 30, Xbox Game Pass subscriber growth was up 37%, but the company had set a 48% growth goal.
  • In the company's prior fiscal year, which ran from mid-2019 through mid-2020, Game Pass subs were up 86%, exceeding a target of 71%.

Considering that with Halo, the MS first party has spent its major loads, I'm expecting some deals to go down to secure a few prominent third party games on Game Pass day 1.

GP has had an amazing and diverse list of games in Q4 2021. Sony really needs to do something similar.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
