Wish to buy a 7" Android tablet. Please help!

Hello everyone,


I wish to buy a 7" Android tablet. I need your advise for this as I am a complete newbie in mobile devices. I have been a PC user, both desktop and laptop but now I wish to use mobile devices and tablet attracts me. I have seen many Chinese tablets at Symbios, Homeshopping, ishopping sites as well as Galaxy Tab 2 and Google Nexus 7 but I am unable to decide what I should buy. Are chinese tablets reliable? If so which one should I go for? Ainol or Cherry? Also I wish to buy a tablet which can run Android Jelly Bean OS. For this Google Nexus seems to be the best choice but it has very little storage. Is there a way to increase the storage of Nexus 7? Also can I use my laptop as an additional storage to Nexus 7; like moving the software from Nexus 7 to my laptop and from my laptop to Nexus 7? Kindly help me and throw some light on this. Also is there any Samsung tab which can be compared with Nexus 7 currently? And also please inform me about the Chinese tablets. Please inform. :salute:

What's your budget? First priority is ipad mini, Second priority is galaxy tab 7.0 , third is nexus 7. Other than that you can get many other tablets but Chinese are not recommended, I've heard of many people's bad experiences.

My budget is around Rs. 30-35,000. Does Galaxy tab 7.0 runs Android Jelly Bean OS? What is its average price in the market? Please inform. Also about Nexus 7, if I buy the tablet with 3G would I be able to use a sim to access the internet? And about ipad mini, if I could somehow arrange some more amount to buy, for how much would I be able to buy it for at the least? Kindly inform. Thanks :)

35K budget is good. Yousaf has given you the link to jellybean rom for Galaxy tab 7. Yes you can use Internet with your sim but Pakistan doesn't have 3G yet so you will only get slow speeds. Least price for ipad mini is 39-40k, but if you wait for some days, it might be available in used for around 32-34k. :)

Anything newer than Gingerbread is good. Tab 2 7.0 has ICS 4.0.3 out of the box but is upgradeable to 4.1.1 JellyBean. Unlike the Nexus 7, it has a Dual-Core 1GHz NOT a Quad-Core. I would recommend getting the Nexus 7, it's a Nexus device (it'll get all updates), it's got a Quad-Core CPU and a Tegra 3 chipset. Nexus 7 only lacks a rear camera. Tab 2 7.0 has both.

Jelly Bean is the lastest Android version. think of it as

Windows 7 = Ice cream sandwich
Windows 8 = Jelly Beans

Yes, you can use Printer with a OTG, and yes all samsung Galaxy S2,S3 do and Note series phone support OTG.

If your printer supports wireless thingy (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) then do it through that. I think USB OTG is only for storage.

Thanks bro. I think I should go with Nexus 7 as it is the latest and it can have future updates too. Please inform me a little more important things.

1- Should I buy Nexus 7 from online retailers or from the Saddar or Techno markets? Which would be better?

2- Is the OTG and the related flash drive available from the local market? Are they expensive? Also what capacity flash drive could be used with OTG?

3- Would it be possible for me to connect Nexus 7 to my Win 7 laptop and transfer data from laptop to Nexus 7 and from Nexus 7 to the laptop?

4- Should I buy Nexus 7 with 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB storage. Considering the OTG solution would it be wise to buy an 8 GB Nexus 7 wifi?



Sorry for so many questions bro but I have very little understand of mobile devices. So please help. Thanks :)

it is sad that there aren't many good options available right now in your budget other than amazon hd or nexus 7 etc... and both do not have expandable storage... increasing budget will open up a lot more options though...

Go for Nexus 7. The best 7 inch android tablet.

I would suggest you to go for 16GB version atleast.

    You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
