@Sire Ahsan Bhai NBP ka baat na ker! I did an Intership at a branch for 6 month (HO mai nahi lag saki). Dahi walay ki dukan jaise branch thi.
First day there, and at about 2PM 25 guys come barging in shouting slogans and mobile chor ki shakal walay log. I was like WTF is this shit. Went directly into the BM's room and later biryani was distributed ...err.. loot mar. Turns out k Manager recently got this post o/a of merit (party ka merit).
Those 6 weeks, man oh man...Things I did and saw.

And yeah it is very true, its hard to find a job which you'd be happy with. First few months are really a pain.

Hey I guess we should start a thread about this kinda stuff...
true story all of my university days friends whom in some PARTY they get direct appointment even before getting there final result either in NBP or KESC on almost 25-35 starting and i was that time start with 20 some thing and still after 1.5 year of din rat ki marai i am on 30 and they are on 40 + transport + extra benefits . even my cousin in NBP get 25 and her education is not even B.com she only did B.A WTF B.A get starting of 25 and i feel like stupid when i see her salary slip that my 4 year B.B.A is just dust on shoes :crying: .

^ Mubarik ho mairay bhai.

I do have a job lol Its just for my pocket money and shit but still, its a job. I work in this company as if I own it :D I go late, I take fridays off, I never go on saturdays.
BUT I get work done. I have better work output than pretty much anyone else here (at my level at least). So they're happy.

Wish I had more options though.
So is it some family business/dad's friends stuff?

I don't have a job right now because i haven't even applied at a single place yet. Just hoping for things to get better at my end.

I'm a middle class londa dude :) No family businesses, no interior ministry contacts :D

I applied for an internship via Pakistan Software Export Board's placement cell. They gave me an internship in a software house. That company hired me within the first week after seeing my work (and after I said I'm leaving because spending 10k/month on CNG just to get here is too much).

I'm doing my bachelors currently. Final project ongoing + a stupid calculus 2 course left.

I recently got a job in a reputable software house. for that I had to go through 2 interviews each lasting for 1.5 Hours
I will have to work for 5 hours per day there, for that they will be paying me quite handsome amount of money, I am currently in 6th semester and 1 year still remain in passingout ..

@raper Please post more details of your experience at NBP. It is legendary place and I would like more info. PM me if you prefer.

This is a good thread, definitely a good first post by OP. However opinions are like mouths, and some of them stink. Some people say only reference/sifaarish works. These are usually the people who are trying and not succeeding. Some people say merit is the way. These are the people who are employed. So it is a matter of one's situation, perspective and state of mind.

I wanted to pose a religious question about Rizq but I don't think I will disrupt this thread. Is there a forum related to Islam, not sure which is correct because there are so many subgroups these days.

wow. just. WOW.
its all so pretty out there in facebook and other discussion forums. people discussing study techniques, wanting good grades, and just assuming once they are done, they'll be served a job on a silver platter.

This forum twists and squeezes out the bitter reality of it all.

Remarkable thread with remarkable people. I honestly have found no accountancy forum (since thats my feild) or any other social media as helpful as this 1 education section in a gaming forum.

I have Done My BA Hons in International Business management and then Master degree in Strategic Management and Leadership From United Kingdom. Worked in 2 Bluechip brands Costa and Starbucks. Now What i saw there and then compare degrees and level of education in Pakistan a small example i have studied 12 subjects in 3 years time only 12 subjects in BA international Business Management ( here in Pak BBA 40 + ) This is insane system how on earth after 4 years of study you gona recall what you have studied in first semester if some one asked you some thing in an interview? This whole system is stupid BULK STUDIES here in Pakistan we study 40 subject each and every thing 50 + may be we may not able to see in the market or wont be able to use it. Interview's We almost all here in Pakistan hardly target companies like if you we see 10 ads related to you qualification we prob apply on all 10/10 rather then target 3,4 best one according to your abilities not according to the pay and other things they offer.

very informative topic....job market in Pakistan is very intense now a days...regarding GPA and institute i'll say that if you are smart and have very good social and professional skills thn you are in race otherwise market will kick you out of the race....this is the rule not only in Pakistan but all over the world...and reference also matters...in 2009 as fresh graduate (B.com from pvt college in 2nd div ) i started ACCA and till Dec 2011 hardly passed 5 papers of ACCA...thn i start searching for job...i got a job in a small firm as secretary *** accountant....(8000rs salary)...after 8months i got a free visa from Saudi Arabia.....thn i cam here and after 3 months i got a job as trainee Accountant (2000 SAR).....after 3 months of this trainee job my Boss referred me for a vacant of Staff Accountant for the HQ of same company....i got a chance for interview there and ALLHAMDULILAAH got that job...package is very very good..:)..so i'll say luck+right time+profession skills = good job..:).....but free visa for saudia cost me same study visa for UK...at that time i had to chose from UK or SAUDIA and i chose SAUDIA (this was my wise decision coz in UK even after 5 years you'll be a student but here in suadia after 5 years there will be 5 years detailed experience in my CV)..but in saudia even for that trainee job i had to use a reference.....recently Saudi govt have changed their rule regarding free visa so a big opportunity for job seekers in Saudi market is closed

So I've been going over this thread from page 1 to 22 for the past hour, this was almost like watching a great documentary, there are twists and turns, things that made you smile (GPA doesn't matter) and some things that made you frown (experience matters the most). I'm about to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering from SSUET and the "white collar mentality" has started to kick in. I am (was) in the middle of making my CV and a few queries crossed my mind about the oh so elusive "Personal Interests/Skills", apart from the generic Communication Skills, MS Office (like if thats even considered a skill in this day and age), etc etc, should people mention things that actually require a brain (not being offensive but c'mon knowing how to operate MS Office isn't a skill) but aren't really related to their field of work? For example I'm a freelance video editor, mostly post production work, ofcourse I won't be making Avatar 2 but I can do better than, say "Eye to Eye". Point is with Civil Engineering as my primary field of interest, is it a good (or bad) move to mention my "skills using XYZ video editor"? Ofcourse my question isn't limited to my own personal skills, a lot of people here have their own talents and I'm sure they would probably benefit from my query.

On a different note I didn't notice many guys from the engineering sector in the thread, which means either (a) there is a decent job market for engineers or (b) the engineers are busy out sending their CV/resume that they don't have the time to visit forums. Hopefully its the former :wink2:

Thanks for all the info everyone, especially Blastwave and Roark

Actually there are alot of opportunities for engineers. Engineering and sales are where there are serious shortages.

Dude mention any skill that you have. Video Editting is useful in alot of things. Hell i'd love it if i had one in my team. Would save me loads of cash getting movies made from vendors and companies.

Actually Office is a skill, it baffles me that there are people that are clueless on excel and basic things. Mostly girls. It's mindblowing. Being Tech Savy is pretty good too. I leverage alot of my online social media skills in projects. It purely depends on who is interviewing you guys.

On a side note, i have a pleasant surprise for all you aspiring job seekers. Give it a month and watch this forum. I figured if i can help someone i should help the community here as well.
