As the title says, what do you think will be the cost of Haswell CPU's, mainly the i5?
If I wanna upgrade my PC from Core 2 duo, should I wait for Haswell or just go for Ivy?

(Price in usd (per 1000) * current conversation rate) +( 15% of conversion as sales tax) + (10% or so as selling prices in 1s)

E.g.
for 3770k
(299*97.8 = 29,200) + (4386) + (500) = 34000

Based on historical intel price data
4770k 299
4670k 199

I could go for an IVY or wait for Haswell.....DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!!
Wait for Haswell
LGA1155 is dead now and will be replaced by LGA1150 in June which will last 2 Generations

Haswell offers performance improvements over IvyBridge
One can argue that its not a big increase but price for price Haswell will replace Ivy meaning for the price u buy Core i7 3770K u will be able to buy 4770K which will be faster and on a newer platform

Im on waiting train myself and the station is Haswell (sm1)

Firstly, the 1155 platform isn't dead. It's been more alive than ever this year. Haswell would be more expensive than your 3770ks current price for a few good months. Ivys price won't be coming down that soon either.

Thinking that the new 4rd generation i7 would launch at the current selling price of the 3rd generation ones is a big misunderstanding.

Lol @ Intel data. Currently the 3770k after one whole year hasn't even hit the retail shelves for 300 bucks, except for microcenter in-store deals, playing a monopoly and thinking that the 4770k would cost that much, speculation at its worst may I say.

As for the thread starter, it depends if you're willing to pay a fleeced retail price whenever it launches in Pakistan. However, if you wanna act smart, you may wanna purchase an Ivy Bridge processor at Haswells release, while accepting the fact that you won't be overclocking it like crazy.

No upgrade path to Haswell makes LGA-1155 a dead socket already. Haswell may bring better thermal performance and Intel HD graphics over Ivy Bridge which is good for worst case scenarios.

Well, I won't have enough cash to buy Core i7, was targeting i5.

I wonder if there will be good but cheap mobo's available soon after Haswell launch..........

Talking about right now, only a few motherboards were showcased at CES, but we would really know that at Compuetx 2013. Haswell wouldn't be coming to Pakistan until at least July, being the earliest.

Obviously if you can wait till August/September then you should.

Also people here are wrong about the price difference. Just compare the local prices of current gen CPUs with Newegg prices. I think you will find that the CPU prices here are very much in line with prices in the US.

^ this. HDDs and SSDs are also priced reasonably here in Pakistan.

Haswell will be a Price for Price replacement of Ivy Bridge considering International Prices

Expect them to be a few K more expensive at launch here in Pakistan much like the price difference between Sandy and Ivy at Ivy Launch

Hmmm that is too far.....................
Well they will be launched internationally in June and become available locally by July. So you can buy in July but it'll cost you a few k extra like Hasan said. By Aug/Sep the prices should settle down and motherboard choice will also have improved.

Well I still have some more cash to gather :p. Thanks for everyone's help. So far I'm leaning towards Haswell unless I get a reason to buy IVY.
I hate making Decisions like these -_-

RAM too. Basically all core hardware. Niche stuff like GPUs are expensive. LCDs are also expensive because there is a duty attached to them (other parts are 0 rated).

Right now, Neweggs prices are absurdly high. I'm not sure if you heard this but memory chip makers boosted memory prices this past month, which shook pretty much the entire industry of sales, and newegg on the other hand took advantage of the situation and raised even the motherboards and processors prices quite high.

And btw, newegg isn't the only online retailer that sells processors, there are a ton of other places too. So comparing the prices of the local pak market with that of newegg at any given time is unreliable, which makes it also a false accusation. And that's a big no, even right now, processor and GPU prices are not exactly 'in line' with US prices. That I can guarantee you.
