Sony’s adaptation of Valiant Comics’ Bloodshot might have found its lead in Jared Leto. In the past decade, studios have bet on adapting comic books to the big screen, whether about superheroes (the best examples being, undoubtedly, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and DC’s Extended Universe) villains, or anti-heroes. The adaptation era is peaking right now and shows no signs of slowing down, as it keeps proving to be quite profitable for the studios in charge of producing.
After venturing in this field with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and later with Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony is now planning a potential Valiant Universe, starting with Bloodshot. A short-list of of actors to potentially star in this film was released a few months ago, with names such as Oscar Isaac, James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicholas Hoult, and Mark Wahlberg. Now, it seems like the studio has set eyes in another actor also from the superhero genre and who was not included in the previous list.

According to Deadline, Jared Leto is now in talks to star as Angelo Mortalli aka Bloodshot. The project will be helmed by Dave Wilson – a Blur Studio VFX artist who worked in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Deadpool – and will be penned by Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer.

Created in 1992 by Kevin VanHook and Yvel Guichet, Bloodshot follows Angelo Mortalli, a former soldier infused with nanotechnology, which gives him powers of regeneration and meta-morphing. After having his memory wiped multiple times, he decides to go out and discover who he really is while also getting vengeance on those who turned him into a weapon.
Bloodshot is planned as the first film in a shared universe of Valiant properties produced by Sony. The deal also includes Harbinger, a comic book series centered on a team of super-powered outcasts. The plan includes a sequel for Bloodshot, two Harbinger films, and a crossover based on Harbinger Wars.
Leto is no stranger to fantasy and science fiction – especially the superhero genre. His take on the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was not well-received by neither critics or fans, so taking the role of Bloodshot could be his chance to make up for his performance as Mr. J and win the fans’ trust. Leto will also appear in Blade Runner 2049, further expanding his territory into the sci-fi genre.

[h=1]Vin Diesel Confirmed To Star In Sony’s Bloodshot Movie[/h]

Sony Pictures’s adaptation of Valiant Comics’ Bloodshot has found its lead in Vin Diesel. When it comes to adapting comic books to the big screen, Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. are the studios to beat, but other studios have had their fair share of comic book adaptations as well. In addition to the new Spider-Man films produced in conjunction with Marvel Studios, as well as the upcoming Venom and Silver & Black films, Sony is working on yet another comic book property: Bloodshot.
An early short-list of potential actors to star in Bloodshot surfaced online last year. On that were actors such as Oscar Isaac, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mark Wahlberg. Then, in July 2017, it was reported that Jared Leto was circling Bloodshot, and then the latest person rumored to be in talks to star as Raymond Garrison was Vin Diesel, who ended up getting the role in the end.

Deadlinereports that Vin Diesel has closed a deal with Sony to star in Bloodshot, with Dave Wilson on board as director and Eric Heisserer (Arrival) penning the script. Deadline also shares that the film will be reminiscent of the “classic 1980s tentpoles like Robocop, Terminator, and Total Recall.” Principal photography will begin in July, with a release date yet to be announced.

Created in 1992 by Kevin VanHook and Yvel Guichet, Bloodshot follows a former soldier infused with nanotechnology, which gives him powers of regeneration and meta-morphing. After having his memory wiped multiple times, he sets out to discover his true identity while also seeking vengeance on those who turned him into a weapon. Bloodshot is planned as the first film in a shared universe of Valiant properties that include an adaptation of Harbinger, a comic book series centered on a team of super-powered outcasts, and a crossover between Bloodshot and Harbinger.
Vin Diesel is no stranger to major franchises as well as comic book properties, having starred in the Fast & Furiousand The Chronicles of Riddick franchises. He’s currently part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe providing the voice for Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War, and the still untitled Avengers 4 film.
Sony’s history with comic book adaptations hasn’t been great following the conclusion of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, but after the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and with Venom being one of the most anticipated films of the year, Sony might be getting a new start in the genre. Having a big name like Vin Diesel attached to the film will certainly grab the attention of general audiences – especially those not familiar with Bloodshot’s story – making for a good start in this Valiant shared-universe.

[h=1]Vin Diesel's Bloodshot Casts Sam Heughan, Eiza Gonzalez, & Michael Sheen[/h]

Sam Heughan, Eiza Gonzalez, and Michael Sheen are joining Vin Diesel in Sony Pictures' Bloodshot. While Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment are typically the talk of the town when it comes to comic book movie adaptations, there are several other brands ripe for the picking. Sony may have Spider-Man, but they're also investing heavily in bringing some of Valiant's properties to the big screen. They even have plans to make a Valiant shared universe, with Bloodshot marking their first foray.
After shuffling through a few directors and possible stars, Sony's current package for Bloodshot features Vin Diesel as the star, with Dave Wilson making his directorial debut after tackling multiple trailers for major video games. The movie has been progressing quite smoothly ever since Diesel boarded the project, and now, he finally has some co-stars.

Variety reports that Outlander star Sam Heughan, Baby Driver breakout Eiza Gonzalez, and the versatile veteran Michael Sheen have all joined Bloodshot's cast. While Variety's report did not specify character details, The Wrap added that Heughan is playing Corporal Harlan and Sheen as Dr. Emil Harting.

Based on the casting results so far, Sony Pictures is looking to sell Bloodshot on the shoulders of Diesel while assembling a talented cast around him that could pay off if it becomes a franchise. Previous character breakdowns from That Hashtag Show reveal that Sheen's role will make him the mad-scientist villain of Bloodshot. The role of Harlan "So Long" Shifflet should give Heughan a big role in the movie as well.
Using these same breakdowns, it appears as though Gonzalez will play the role of Kareena Pillai. She is described as "striking and clever, observant, a woman who has a moral code unlike some of her egotistical colleagues" and eventually becomes Bloodshot's love interest. The latter aspect could be a potentially odd relationship given the 22 year difference between Diesel and Gonzalez, but that wasn't necessarily an issue in Baby Driver between her and Jon Hamm.
With Bloodshot looking to film this summer, there should be plenty more additions to the cast. There appears to be at least six more supporting roles that need to be filled now that the leading roles are taken care of. As Sony finishes casting, it will be interesting to see if they go out and land any other big names that can possibly drive up the box office.

[h=1]Vin Diesel's Bloodshot Casts Fantastic Four's Toby Kebbell as New Villian[/h]

Toby Kebbell is the latest addition to the cast of Vin Diesel's Bloodshot, as the film's new villain. This won't be Kebbell's first turn as a villain, as the actor played Dr. Doom in 2015's Fantastic Four. Kebbell also starred in Kong: Skull Island last year, and delivered a motion capture performance in the latest reimagining of the The Planet of the Apesfilms.
Kebbell's filmography stretches back to the early 2000s. But by 2010, the actor was landing roles in big-budget, action films like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. In 2014, Kebbell became an integral part of The Planet of the Apes franchise as Koba. Kebbell also played the aforementioned notable role of Dr. Doom in director Josh Trank's critically panned Fantastic Four. Originally from England, Kebbell has been curating an extensive filmography. Now, he has a new project to add.

As reported by The Wrap, Kebbell will be joining Bloodshot as one of the film's villains, Axe. Kebbell joins a growing cast of actors, including Vin Diesel, Eiza González, Michael Sheen, and Outlander's Sam Heughan. The film is currently in pre-production, but will begin principal photography this July. Bloodshot is reuniting Diesel with Neal Moritz, the producer behind Fast and Furious. This will mark the first time the pair have worked together outside of that franchise.

The film is based on the Bloodshot comic series created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992. Dave Wilson, Deadpool director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studios, will direct the film. Wilson wasn't the first filmmaker attached to the project, as both Kick-Asshelmer Matthew Vaughn and John Wick duo David Leitch and Chad Stahelski were previously rumored to direct. Bloodshot will follow a mortally wounded soldier brought back to life with cutting-edge nanotechnology, and tasked with rounding up super-powered outcasts known as “harbingers.” During its comic book run, Bloodshot amassed 110 issues with more than 7.5 millions copies sold.
Kebbell may be flying under the radar at the moment. But with a key role in Bloodshot, fans will likely come to know the actor and his extensive, impressive work very soon. Kebbell's past projects have generally either been less than successful or retained a measure of success, but not seen Kebbell at the forefront of that acclaim. With a film like Bloodshot, Kebbell will tap into a whole new fan base who have been devoted to that particular comic. Working alongside big stars like Vin Diesel and Michael Sheen could also prove to be a boost for him too, once the film begins marketing and sets a date for release. In the near future, Toby Kebbell could well become a household name.
