This is the First Component for my new mATX build that i'll be doing.
Got the Silverstone PS08 Because of its small size and its price.

it comes in a small carbboard box with all the info about the case.

here is the case out of the box. its got foam padding on the top and bottom. To protect it during shipment.

here's the case with the packaging material removed. it comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports and headphone and microphone jacks below the 5.25 bays. below which is the filter for the intake fan. It also has mesh on the side pannel for airflow to the expansion cards

taking the airfilter off reveals the fron 120mm fan and a spot for an optional 80mm fan

A look inside the case.
It can take GPUs upto 14 inches long.
its a very shallow case so you can only fit cpu coolers that are 140mm tall. Any taller and you'll have to run the PC with the side pannel off

all the connectors for the internal headers

you will also find a plastic ziplock bag with screws, a cable tie and a quick start guide.

Here's the case next to my Thinkpad T420 just to show you how small this case is.

now here's where i need some suggestions.
i plan on going the AMD route because AMD boards and processors are almost half the price of intel parts here.
I'm planning on either going for FM2 socket or AM3+

Pros of FM2
Cheaper CPUs (Trinity quadcore without the APU part)
Lots of Choice when it comes to mATX boards.
cheaper high end boards.

Cons of FM2
Only Quad Core CPUs available.
no L3 Cache on the non-APU parts
may bottleneck mid-high end GPUs

Pros of AM3+
6-Core piledriver CPUs (fx6300/6350)
Much more powerful
Has more L3 Cache
Will not bottleneck mid-high end GPUs
Crossfire option on high end boards

Cons of AM3+
only 970 chipset bast boards available in mATX form factor.
higher end boards are more expensive.
more power consumption.
lack of good mATX boards.

if you are building it as your Secondary rig then go with the FM2, APUs are good but only 6xxx sereis the older 5xxx series arent good at all, since there is cpu and gpu both on the same chip so you need a good power delivery and 8pin motherboard for stable OC and ram speeds are really important so buy a board with good bios that can oc, asus ASUS F2A85-M/CSM FM2 AMD A85X or ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 AMD A85X and there is a pretty cheap a good Asrock board avalible ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4-M FM2 AMD A85X, the reason why i said 8pin power instead of 4pin cauz you would need to oc it to 4.5ghz atleast so you can bump Up the ram beyond 2133 and yes ram speed will improve your performence a lot, so do use a good 2133mhz sticks atleast 8gb or 1866mhz that can do 2133mhz oc atleast, and remember you dont need a GPU external the build one can handle 90% of the games in 1080p medium and high settings, games like crysis3, metro company of heros are not palyable, upgrade something like 7750 if you want but if you really want a dedicated gpu then FM2 isnt the way to go.
150$ processor 80$ for asrock board and 70$ good memory 2133mhz 8gb. PLUS CPU cooler 50$ so total 350$
in 350$ tag price you can find i3 2120, h61 or 67 board with hd 7770 and any 8gh 1600mghz rams and its way better the fm2 since HD 7770.
your choice!!

well this isn't kind of a secondary rig but here's what i plan on running.
I plan on running a GTX660ti so first i was thinking of going for the non-apu part. either Athalon 750k or 760k because they are basically A10 CPUs without the GPU and hence are half the price. but later when i read the reviews i saw that it'll bottleneck anything above GTX650. so i changed my plans and decided to go AM3+ route and go for the 6-core FX6350. because an overclocked 6350 will be close to a low end i5. But the problem with that is i cannot find any good 970 based boards im m-ATX. the only ones i can find are 960g boards which arent really good for overclocking.

Another option for me is to go for a high end Z87 board and pair it with the cheapest i3 i can find. and then later down the road upgrade to a 4670k or 4770k. but the problem with that is the whole CPU + mobo combo costs 2x as much.

asrock FM2A85X E4M is for about $75 and the Asrock Z87 E4M is for about $140.
AMD 750k/760k are for $75/$80 and the cheapest haswell i3 is for $150

so the starting prices kind of add up. i can get the amd CPU+mobo combo for $150 but the intel one is $290. its the same if i go the Z77 route because there's a difference of $10-15 b/w 3rd gen and 4th gen so a z77 based one would still be $260-$270
