Sooooooo ... here we go again with another 4K unboxing after my previous Samsung 4K LED. As you can see on this suggestion thread here, http://www.pakgamers.com/forums/f67/asus-rog-swift-acer-xb280hk-219393/ that I wanted to pick between ROG Swift and ACER 4K G Sync Gaming Monster - now I will be listing the reasons why I opted for this monitor as opposed to the true orgasmic gamer's dream monitor, ROG Swift.
Why ACER 4K G-Sync?
- 4K UHD Resolution for work and productivity oh and ... gaming.
- G-Sync
- Good reviews
- Minimal to none complaints about the build quality and hardly any if at all RMA.
Why not ASUS ROG Swift?
- 1440p
- Too many RMA, RMA rates were too high.
So with that out of our way .. I'd like to make clear that I was very eager to go with ROG Swift for many reasons which includes but not limited to: G Sync, 144Hz, 3D etc. however the biggest issue threw me off from ROG Swift was because I saw there were too many faulty units out there and it was too much of a risk for me to buy it from USA and have it delivered in Pakistan just to find out it's faulty or actually becomes faulty after a month of usage which was quite too common with people who purchased it, I just couldn't take the risk ... I would have waited to buy that one like few more months until ASUS fixes the issues and new line of units would be better taken care of but then I saw that ASUS was bringing ASUS ROG Swift 4K IPS Panel which really made me happy and I knew that I was gonna get that one but sadly it's not out for another 6 months or so ... so sadly I had to go with something in meanwhile and this was the best gaming 4K monitor out there at this moment; even though it's ACER but they really did give themselves a good name with this monitor. The reviews are great, it performs awesome and it also looks awesome (not as awesome as ROG Swift though!) oh and the biggest point for going with ACER was the resolution ... the almighty 4K - after using 4K for the first time with my Samsung 4K monitor, I couldn't imagine my self going down in resolution whether be it gaming or obviously productivity. So enough with the ranting and explanations, let's get to the goody good unboxing pictures:
Here you'll see the monitor from front and back with it being on the highest on it's stand:
Here you'll see the monitor from front and back with it being on the almost lowest on it's stand:
So had fun? Enjoyed it? I'm glad so did I .. until I got to the bad part! The red pixel of death, pfffttt ... nah, not really .. it's actually not that big of an issue as this is almost a given nowadays in every other monitor and the policy for dead pixels sucks so it can't even be claimed for warranty unless I have signification amount of dead pixels on per million pixels (depends on the manufacturer's policy) so in my case I got a tiny little dead pixel on top right, I don't know if it was right out of the box but I noticed it in couple hours ... maybe warming up the monitor made it occur regardless, it was there and it's a manufacturing fault but that's what happens on TN panels most of the time, my other LG Ultrawide monitor also got a tiny dead pixel however the good part is ... you can't really seem to notice it at all while playing games or watching movies, it's usually only visible on same color when it's throughout the screen and all and you'll only notice it if you know it's there so it's not that big of an issue, here is the picture of a dead pixel:
Now to another slight bad part ... backlight bleeding - again, it's almost a given on TN Panels nowadays and you're lucky if you get one without it cause if I remember it correctly, again depending on the manufacturer there isn't much you can do with backlight bleeding for claiming warranty unless it's very significant and all and specially me being in Pakistan and the product being in Pakistan right now as well, I don't feel like sending it back to USA even though it has 5 years warranty on it I think? Anyways, it's really not bothering at all as it's only visible on black screen and you don't really notice it much at all if any .. I'm writing this post on my 4K monitor and I just tried to find the backlight bleed and I simply can't with PG being open here with it's dark looking theme but not pitch black, which is where you'll actually see the backlight bleed but nevertheless it's all acceptable to me ... can't do anything about it so I have to accept it anyway - don't want buyer's remorse, lol. So here's a picture of backlight bleed:
Now with even the bad part out, let's get to the good part shall we?
Well ... I tried to play Dying Light on it and the games that had tearing before such as DiRT 3 and all ... and boy oh boy, does it look gorgeous or what ... no tearing at all .. the games are just ... freaking ... FLAWLESS oh and the color accuracy on this monitor is AMAZING, just as good as a cheap IPS panel which says a lot for TN panel.
So all in all, I give it 8.0 out of 10 for review because of the problems I had otherwise for it's features and every other thing about this beast is just amazing.
I'll most likely be selling this monitor in few months or even rather sooner so if anyone got decent offers to put up, PM me about it and we'll see if we can work something out.
p.s. don't mind the messy background as there's been construction work going in my house also sorry about the protective cover still being on the monitor as I've been busy didn't get the time to take it out plus until work is done at least in my room, I felt it was for the best to keep it on anyway.
