@murtaza12 @Joker99 : TES has arrived for Phase 5 Bahria Town. What type NAT do they use and what problems will it give me in certain/all games?

Spoiler: show

NAT Type 3 by default cause they use Carrier Grade NAT.
I didn't get to experience any gaming issues since I got static IP enabled very shortly after getting my connection installed.

Once you have static IP, it's all good. No NAT issues. HOWEVER, it's not static IP. It's just dynamic IP but without the carriers grade NAT. Kinda sucks you have to pay 290 per month extra just to get out of their CGN.

TES has been great so far. Had some disconnection issue this morning, emailed them, got a call back within 10 mins. Issue was fixed immediately. That's what you call customer support. Very impressed.

Speed is great, I usually get around 7.5 - 8.5 MB/s, sometimes higher on IDM, haven't tried torrents yet as I don't really have anything to download.

Pings to EU are great, sometimes they go as low as 130 ms while playing Fortnite or BF4. Very stable, no lag spikes at all.

Definitely worth it to switch from PTCL.
Can you ping the following addresses and share the results?

So this morning my TW connection died, not like the server timeout kinda death, but the intimidating red light on the ONT kinda dead. Basically PON link was down, meaning there was no connection between me and TWs fiber cabinet.

Now this was quite strange because the connection isn't even that old, and I didn't see this coming. Anyway, I called their helpline, registered a complaint. Then emailed them as well just to get things going. This all happened around 2:30 to 3 PM. I was a bit frustrated initially by the lack of communication on their part, I just wanted to know where the issue was originating from, their end or my end. Anyway, that was cleared up when an email came saying the field maintenance / engineering team is on its way to resolve your issue.

5 PM the bell rings, all familiar faces, it's the same team that came to install the connection initially. 2 guys worked on the outside splitter box, and 2 guys worked on the ONT and the indoor fiber cable. They used this really nifty tool called a Visual Fault Locator (VFL) to determine where exactly the fault was present on the wire. They found it, rectified it immediately, did the splicing process again, hooked up the ONT and I got the same stable optical power figures that I had on day one.

Connection was fixed immediately. They made me do 2 speed tests and stayed for 5 mins to see if browsing and whatnot was okay, they took a picture of my laptop screen of the speedtest to send back to their HQ and they were off.

I just wish they had given me the contact details of the team who were coming by so I could ask what time they would have arrived, as I was about to leave when they showed up, since I was expecting them to come by tomorrow and didn't really expect them to fix it today.

Working on the outdoor box:

They may have arrived quicker except were working on my connection today :p.

Applied Monday, survey Tuesday, installation done today.

Was surprised to see the tiny wire that came from the DP outside. Nayatel's is the thicker one that goes till ONT box thingie.

Yes these guys use a much thinner indoor FTTH cable.

The fiber cable loop indoor was too long, and it broke in the fiber splitter, which is what caused my PON link issue.

Never understood the fiber slitter box, thought why not just plug directly to ONT. The fiber once gets out of the shield must be very delicate so obviously it moving around with other cables etc. will result in easy break.

Here's a morning Speedtest:

Next to do:

Find out the telecomadmin password which has apparently changed after the ONT synced with the ISP. I need this in bridge mode. Apparently it involves resetting the ONT to default, unplugging the fiber, logging in with telecomadmin/admintelecom and then connecting fiber once more so it grabs the ISP config. Once that is done, you save the Config file and decode the password OR change the default root user to telecomadmin OR add another user.

*sigh*

I think I am gonna ask their Customer Support for this. Paid for the thing, I hate locked down devices.

P.S. Was given Huawei HG8245H ONT.

I wanted to do bridge mode, but wasn't really bothered. I have all necessary devices connected to a switch which I have connected directly to the ONT, and my router then handles everything else.

Try asking customer support if you can switch to bridge mode, considering there's no toggle for it in the ONTs GUI, they'll probably have to do it remotely.

The usual root login has limited options. There is another user "telecomadmin" available for ONTs but changed by ISPs. I asked them for the password explaining I need to set ONT to Bridge mode. They replied that the request is forwarded to appropriate and will contact me about the same.

Good luck with that.

I spent a good long time trying to get them to have them unlock the su account. They refused on account of 'thats not permitted for residential users'. I then proceeded to rant about it here.

They won't give you the credentials but might put you in bridge mode themselves if you ask nicely.

Good luck.

Hmm..... lol, I am all happy dreamy for now. New relationship with TES. I have not received the response from appropriate person yet as they said so will wait until tomorrow for that before reminding them again.

but can you at least confirm one thing for me? If I reset it, it won't be an issue, right? Cause the ONT pulls everything from OLT the moment it connects to TES? I am just a little hesitant about this point, otherwise will YOLO it (and also because I OWN the device) and follow the methods present online where the config file can be decoded i.e. telecomadmin password as well as any other config.

You must have come across the methods mentioned online? Did you try? For example, this guy:

Obtaining administrator access on Huawei HG8247H * theZedt

I've tried this and more lol.

Huawei updated their firmware a long time ago - you can't elevate user privileges and/or add new users now. You can edit the config file and upload it to the ONT, but your settings won't stick.

Also, soon as your device establishes a PON link, TW's NMS sends over a config file that wipes almost all pre-stored settings on your device, so this method would be moot even if you did somehow elevate the secondary user's privileges.

Asking TW for the su password is again futile, cause they don't know it themselves. The su credentials are random strings generated by their NMS each time you connect to their network. Same goes for your account's PPPoE password.

Play around with it all you want, reset it as many times as you want it won't have any effect. Everything will go back to normal soon as you connect the fiber.

and also because I OWN the device

This pissed me off to no end. I paid a god damn fortune for the device, how in the world can you justify disabling the FTP Service that is available by default on a device I paid for and sell it as a value added service for Corporate Accounts. I mean if the service required anything from TW's infrastructure, I'd understand but it lives on the device I own ffs.

Honestly, I'm just bidding my time - gonna switch over to SF soon as I get an excuse.

First IP doesn't work. Times out.

Second one is 155 ms average.

Last one is 185 ms average.
First address is : 185.40.64.69

I am getting 103 ms on the last one, a total surprise to me. When you mentioned 185 I thought I will still be stuck with bad pings.

24 hours later, ONT changed to Bridge mode remotely by them. Got a call confirming the same and was given the PPPoE user/pass. So far as good. (y)

Can you go to the ONT page, click WAN, and send a screenshot, of course with your PPPoE credentials blurred out.

Here you go:

Spoiler: show

The WAN tab does not have anything. Previously, once clicked, it would show the Login (which was same as Customer ID) but now its just -- under all columns.

So on your router, all you had to do was setup PPPoE and then it connected?

And since you don't have static IP, what does it show as the connected IP on your router? 100.x or 103.x?
