Torchlight is a new action RPG from Runic games. Developers of the game have previously worked on games like Diablo and Fate. Influence of Diablo on Torchlight is apparent from the moment you start the game. It is an extremely addictive action RPG involving lots of looting.

PC gamers hardly paid any attention to this game due to some heavy hitters like Dragon Age Origins and Modern Warfare 2 being just around the corner. Looking at the price of the game is also somewhat misleading. How can anybody provide us a good game these days for only US $19.99? The game is also very small in size (around 500MB) which also adds to the illusion of it being a mediocre offering. But this game is anything BUT mediocre.

The game is getting very good reviews from different sites. I played the game for some time and I would recommend it to all Diablo fans. And did I tell you guys that it is a PC exclusive? :wink2:

RPGamer
With phenomenal music and great art direction, combined with an addictive combat system, it's hard to step away from the keyboard and mouse after the first floor.

Cheat Code Central
Runic hasn't dumbed down the experience, they've removed the fluff and distilled it down to the truly fun parts. Add in a few innovations and what you've got is Torchlight; a game that raises the expectations for dungeon-crawling action RPGs by being not just fine-tuned but affordable as well.

GameInformer
The core of the game is its combat and character progression, and both of those are outstanding. Torchlight might not be breaking any new ground, but the soul of Diablo hasn't been so ably captured in years. You won't find much that approaches Torchlight's worth at its $20 price point.
Score: 8.75/10

HellBored
It’s extremely easy to sit down intending to play for a few minutes, only to look up and see that two hours has gone by. The few balance and graphical issues really don’t detract that much from what is as solid a first release as you could hope for from a new company. Torchlight is ambitious, well-executed and, most of all, some of the best fun PC gamers can get for the price.

Gamespot
You don't need to wait for Diablo III. Fans of action-oriented role-playing can get a first-rate fix of hacking and slashing right now in Torchlight, a great dungeon crawl from the designers of the first two Diablo games and the cult hit Fate. Runic Games has forged a letter-perfect copy of the action role-playing formula with fast-paced combat and cartoonish graphics that will keep you clicking until the wee hours.

Torchlight is a great dungeon crawler with enjoyable combat and an excellent loot system.
And there are even a couple of "wait, there's more" kickers. Along with being one of the best action RPGs to hit the PC in many moons, Torchlight is selling for just $19.95, and it comes with absurdly undemanding system requirements along with a netbook mode so that you can play it on just about any system. So not only do you get a great game, but you get a great deal in every respect. Stop reading and start playing.

The timing couldn't be worse for this one. But being a Diablo fan I'll most definitely play it.

By the way, another great feature is the free editing tool being released by the devs for modders, TorchEd. Its highly flexible allowing modders to switch between their created world and play in them at the same time and changing quest events, scripts, importing models and animations etc. Sounds like loads of fun.

These past two months have been superb for PC gaming.

I tried FATE a couple of times few years ago. Gave it up early; didn't like slashing through randomly(?) created dungeons. If I knew the game was by people of diablo fame, I would have probably given it more time.

I would guess these type of games suit more to MMO players, or ones who would have atleast some inclination towards MMOs.

Getting solid reviews so far.

Gamer Limit
With great combat, superb artwork, and an astounding soundtrack, Torchlight is a very solid experience. But the lack of multiplayer prevents it from being truly excellent.

Game Over Online
Torchlight is proof positive that it’s often the simplest games that can be the most addictive.

GameStar
Torchlight is not just a clone of Diablo, it's a very good clone of Diablo, offered at a very low price. The game feels like a modern remake of Diablo, which is no big surprise, because it has been developed by former Blizzard employees Max and Erich Schaefer. The gameplay is so smooth it makes other games feel like work.
Score: 8.0/10

So has anybody else played this game yet? This game is so addictive that it is really hard to stop playing it. Today I had about 20 spare minutes and decided to play Torchlight for that time. I forced myself to close it after two hours :$

Donno i m lost!!
man i m lovin this game...already got about 30+ hourz of gaming invested in this game in just a week.i m playing az the alchamist.mine iz on level 25.one thing i must add iz that it iz like a ditto copy of diablo2.anything frm inventory, character skillz & attributes trees, music, loot system, combat system, quests types is like a perfect copy frm diablo2.not at all a bad thing either.the story iz not at all that involving, the only bad side to this otherwise awesome game.
better additions over diablo2 haz to be the pet and inclusion of guns.right nw i have this gun called the PERSONAL MORTAR and itz just BAD ASS.hope to end it in a few dayz.this iz probably the best ACTION RPG after diablo2.

Donno i m lost!!
nw that i hve successfully done 40+hourz into this game,if does kinda feels repetitive.i knw games like these r repetitive but i meant like environments, enemies and loot and stuff.specialy the environments, the only thing that could make evry quest worth playing is recycled a bit too much.there iz probably only 5 kinds of environments like mines, underground castle, rain forest and underground lava castle.kinda makes the game more of a chore than fun.

TorchLight ..Pc Gaming rejuvenated

hello to all my friends. i have been a playstation 3 and Xbox 360 gamer for quite a while now but it is worth mentioning that i started my gaming from my pentium 1 during the days when the only online server in lahore was lahore wide web and the games which we used to play were quake 1 or unreal tournament.

well as the topic suggests i was under the impression that Pc gaming has come to its dawn but a couple of days back on a request of my good friend Nomad from Pakgamers i played a RPG Game TorchLight. The game is superbly blended with great graphics and highly a addictive gameplay . The good thing is it can be played on any small scale PC with a decent graphic card( played it on my dell xps M170 Laptop with a dedicated Nvidia go 6800 256 MB Graphic Card). This game has recently changed by thinking that Pc gaming is dieing because it is worth mentioning that all the big names in the Gaming Industy are PC gamers.

Although PC gaming is a expensive bliss but then again if one is a hardcore gamer and one can afford getting their rigs updated to keep in line with the newest and hottest gaming coming on the PC, i think its worth it at least once in your gaming life.

so hats off to you my friend Nomad , in my view PC gaming is a undieing dilema which is considered to be a highly over priced hobby, but i say " you will never know how to swim unless u dive in the deep water of PC gaming "

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
