^^Didn't shary already answer your question?

Slims has practically 0 failure rate. While the fat Arcade (Jasper) have a very very small failure rate.

So its a safe bet if you can buy either of these.

[MCV] No disc drive for Next Xbox!

Well-known gaming website MCV revealed that Microsoft has been telling partners that the next Xbox console will not feature a disc drive, with its sources noting that the briefings on the new development came with Non-Disclosure Agreement.

It is obvious that eliminating disc drive suggests that Microsoft’s digital marketplace will be pushed front and download titles via internet.

MCV also stated that the company “will offer compatibility with some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage, although it is not known whether this will be proprietary or a more standard format such as SD.”

Furthermore, a 2013 launch date for the hardware has been confirmed. What is less clear, however, is the intended timing of Microsoft’s announcement.

Microsoft has issued a fuller statement to MCV.

“Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

I don't know.It might still be too early for Digital only consoles.Physically media still selss very well and alot of people don't have access to fast enough internet. But most of the U.S and Europe does and since those regions has always been the Xbox's primary focus it might be true.

There is no way the next Xbox will be an exclusively DD console. Who's got the internet connection to download 40GB games or the space? Also my shitty ISP has download caps on any internet connection above the 1MB package.

Totally bogus rumour.

Many people fail to realize that XBOX itself is only supported in select few countries of the world. And most of these countries don't have any Internet bandwidth issues. Infact it will be lot cheaper for MS to develop and then sell there products. It is a viable business model as STEAM has already proved with over 3 Billion dollar business. It is difficult to realize this now, but since console is a product that stays for next 5 or so years, optical media will definitely be redundant in next few years.

I can't really say how this will affect me.I already download all my games for my J Tag and play them from the HDD so I'm already DD only lol but game sizes will increase alot next gen and it's going to get tougher and tougher to download these games and Pakistan's Internet infrastructure won't be able to keep up :S
