Has anyone tried running the PS4 /PS4 pro on a 1440p monitor? How does it look? I have an Acer XB271HU and don't want to get a 4K TV yet. The response times on these is horrible anyway.

Just thinking of getting the pro temporarily while I play the exclusives and then will get rid of it in a month or so. Will appreciate any feedback.

If we read the article instead of cherry picking ;) , the performance and visuals are both considerably higher than base PS4, so it's an improvement on both fronts.

Boost mode runs at better locked frame rate but even then the Pro patch only drops frames in the 'stress test' areas. It's called stress test for a reason :p
Except that they never called it a "stress test", just your regular frame rate test :p

And thats the overall verdict. As ive mentioned in this thread, sacrifices are made in the wrong areas and the improvements in pro serve to highlight how terrible the base games are on OG PS4. Heres what you find after reading the article:
Unfortunately, there are still limitations to what this hardware can do, and taking a trip through the Corvega factory has PS4 Pro drop to a similar low of 23fps as the regular PS4. While it's improved overall, this is still a very rough area for the hardware to deal with, and likewise, you get sustained drops to the mid-20s at the top of the building - only 2-3fps faster than the regular PS4.
You might still wana hold out on your playthrough for a patch or two. Game is not much of a looker to justify this crappy performance :p

Except it's specifically called out as a "great stress test area" in the video, top of the Corvega (sp) factory.

[4K] Fallout 4: PS4 Pro Patch Analysis + Boost Mode Frame-Rate Test! - YouTube (5 min 20 sec mark onward).

The area bogged down the base PS4 to low 20's and mid 20's with the Pro patch momentarily. Doesn't seem too bad.

Yeah, the game's not exactly the best looker, but:

Fallout 4 : Screenshot Comparison

The Pro patch is adding a lot more visually, better draw distance, anti aliasing, lighting, more foliage etc. It's a definite upgrade on all fronts on the base PS4. For those who want the worse visuals but more adhered 30 FPS, they can opt not to download the patch on their Pro's.

So long story short, the PRO ain't worth shit as of this moment :fp1:

Perhaps it'd be better to skip this generation altogether as I don't see anything trumping PC spec quality anytime soon.

EDIT: So does the boost mode only provides better performance, or does it also improve visuals as well??

ur post will probably get ignored here :p

Hey hello !! I game on a 27" ASUS 1ms Full HD monitor. I had a Normal PS4 a few months back (it died), that`s why bought the Pro. As far as i can tell i see no visual difference between the games i play (they are all online PVP based games).

1-) Destiny ( No difference except for better loading times between menu`s)
2-) Titan fall 2 (feels a bit smoother)
3-) Black Ops3 (No change)
4-) Cod Ghosts (No change)

The only game where i saw / feel some difference in gfx was titan fall 2 , rest were all the same. Let me know if you want me to run something.

Me too have 2k xb270hu monitor, i also wanted to ask this question and tried to find the answer on google.
According to my research, Pro on 2k monitor will run in 1080p resolution (unfortunately) , and then the 4k content of the pro will be down-sampled to 1080. So your visuals will be same when u play any Pc game on ur 2k monitor in 1080 resolution i.e slight blurrness but not major.
2nd worst thing in my model i.e xb270hu (and may be on urs too) is that it only has 1 DP port, and no any hdmi port. So not only we have to get hdmi-to-dp cable but also will have to keep plugging in DP port for PC and for Pro.

What exactly are you looking for ? I have my niece's standard ps4 that i can check on my TV. But for standard ps4 there shouldn't be any difference whether your TV is 4k or not. Unless I'm missing something.

Normal PS4 has absolutely no advantage on 4KTV's, the only thing you'll get is HDR. Other then that base PS4 is good for 1080p HD TV's.

Your PC should be reason enough to buy a 4K tv, even more so over the Pro, but only if you are atleast running a GTX 1080. A 1440p monitor is best suited for Pro imo since thats where the majority of the games will be sticking closer to the native res, the only trade off being size of the display.

Well there is no reason for it not to. If there is 1080p content the display should scale down to 1080p. Although I haven't tried it but its the logical thing to do.

No, other than the ability to run HDR, a 1080p tv is sufficient for PS4. Major disadvantage of 4K would be that PS4 games blown up to 4K would look considerably worse.

According to my knowledge, ps4 pro only supports 1080p and 2160p resolutions. On 1440p monitor, pro will be sending 1080p signal. [emoji19]

oh, right. Didnt know that. I assumed it accepts upto 4K signal so it might support lower resolutions as well via downsampling.

That's .. completely inaccurate and I'm shocked Necrokiller is feigning ignorance and not correcting this :p

Pro supports any number of resolutions. Depends on the developer, anything above 1080p rendered is upscaled to your 4K TV, it also supports down sampling, meaning if you have a 1080p only TV, and the game is supposed to render 1440p eg Uncharted 4, the game will still render at 1440p and then down-sample that image to your 1080p TV, meaning you'll be getting a much cleaner image than you would at the game rendering at 1080p.

What i read on internet and to make my statement more clear, on 1440p monitor pro will be sending 1080p signals (just like to a 1080p monitor), 4k and any content i.e 4k or 1440p will be downsampled to 108p on 1440P (2K) monitor.
I have 2k monitor so i have researced about it, but u can come with any source if u say pro can send 1440p signal to a 1440p monitor i.e it can downsample from 4k to 1440p or upscal 1080p content to 1440p.

Don't think of it like a PC.

Pro's in-game resolution depends on whatever the pro patch had it.

If you have a 1080p TV, and if the game supports super sampling, the game will always render at higher resolution. The image is then down sampled to your TV resolution, because we're fitting in more than 1080p pixels into a 1080p frame, it naturally looks more cleaner and appears like a sharper form of anti aliasing.

The Pro does not send 1440p signals, the only available resolutions are 1080p or 2160p, however if you have a 1440p monitor and you have the PS4 selected at 1080p, if that game has a Pro patch with higher resolution and supports super sampling (i-e not the last guardian :p) it will still be rendering at that higher resolution and even on your 1080p selected resolution, you'll get better image quality than native 1080p.

Think of it the same as PC super sampling.
