So i read an interview from Onic's country manager Bilal Munir Sheikh he compares onic to yourh centeric brands like Glow by warid, Jazba by jazz and Djuice by telenor. He didnt mention anything about ufone so maybe this one is a youth targetted brand of ufone
But it doesnt make sense that they are doing a secret test run without launch if they are just a sub brand of ufone

This is what their customer representative said

View attachment 94206
It is ufone. Because onic sim is beings registered on Ufone network. And there is no merger of ufone and telenor as of now. Before commencing any thing they need to inform PTA, CCP and SECP etc. Before that they cannot perform any merger testing etc.
I asked customer representative is onic based on Ufone, he said we are independent company? I asked again of they have their own towers and network, he replied that he cannot provide me this information which means they are hiding that they are ufone and just wants to increase their number of users. So I cancelled my order.
And on playstore onic app is providing by same developer as ufone. What else remains to clarify?

So...an MVNO?

MVNOs connect to the same MCC/MNC - and the name change is a cosmetic change (you can override it in the SIM card).

I also didn't order, it has a good potential in future if this company gets multiple Network infrastructure sharing like you can use many towers of Jazz and Ufone at the same time and it would be a good option for better coverage, however it seems unlikely that our existing operators other than Ufone would agree to share their spectrum with it unless they get good prices from Onic.

Pakistan telecom industry is going for tower sharing , so soon there won't be any specific tower for any company and those would be maintained by all via another RF company.

Its a MVNO. They are using Ufone towers to provide cheaper plans.

Whatever it is, Pakistan's telecom market isn't very welcoming for this type of projects. Soon onic customers will be merged in ufone. 2 or 3 years may be

I think MVNO's are welcomed here in Pakistan as Pakistanis always look for cheaper option. If you look at Ufone packages, they are expensive compared to all the other telcos, if they are giving there bandwidth to MVNO , it will be good.

How will main MNOs will compete with MVNO? MNOs have all the resources (read network+spectrum) and they wouldn't like to let succeed an MVNO after all those years work and heavy investment.
If MVNO can provide cheaper plans and disrupt market by just using Ufone network. Jazz and Zong can also compete with for the time being cheaper plans and better network. When people on existing Jazz and Zong sims will get similar packages why would they switch to ONIC?

So just recieved my sim. Rider was from Onics and had a Onic device for biometric verification. According to him its a completely separate mobile network from Singapore.
I asked him about if they are going to use ufone towers he said this network is sattelite based using transmitters or something like that, completely separate from other networks that is why they are testing this before official launch
Sim isnt activated yet so will post more information when it starts working

It took 4 hours to activate.
After activation it connected to Onics network but when i checked available networks it was actually renamed Ufone 4g. Then i checked their apn settings they are using ufone settings without any change. Netmonster app also shows ufone LTE band 3.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
