Want to get into elite school. Here is what they look for:

1- Top grades or near-perfect scores
2- Lots of Advanced courses
3- Lots of leadership qualities. Keep in mind that that students applying to the likes of MIT, Harvard, Stanford etc have already perfect grades and also stellar scores in standardized tests. So you have to show something EXTRA to convince them that you deserve a place in the elitest institutes.

Yes you can apply for admission and advance standing. The faculty of that university will decide how many courses can be compensated and how many will be required to repeat.

You're allowed to work 20 hrs a week but still its' fairly expensive, you arent even able to cover living expenses with that.

I disagree with the first 2 points, you can get in with 1900-2100 SAT score and advanced courses aren't really necessary. The 3rd point is the most important.

Re: Student Life in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Malaysia etc.

I'd suggest you wait till he does his o/a levels before sending him as the standard of education is much better and more competitive here

Donno i m lost!!
guys i m srsly thinking abt doing a masters in my field (telecom/electronics) in countries like Canada or US(anything other than UK/Malay or China). there are a couple of problems though
1. i have been out of touch from my field since 2 years. blame bad market situation for us engineers in Pakistan so any uni with generalized admission tests are preferred.
2. i m a pretty average student so a big NO to high profile universities.
3. this is my first ever time trying abroad so a detailed guide will be most helpful :)
4. i do plan on earning while i study.
5. will probably try for immigration but not a priority.

so what are my choices, process, requirements etc. anyone with hands on experience would be great? :)

In the sort of global economy going on, just cross-out the 4th point. You have enough cash, move forward. If not, wait before taking a plunge or try out Germany/Europe which is largely less-expensive than US in particular.

this is why i would prefer Canada first as i have heard, its economy is still one of the most stable ones in the world.

You don't really need a consultant.

A lot of people here have applied on their own and completed the process.

Just learn the process right.
