Sources confirm Microsoft is buying 3DV Systems

Dean Takahashi writes,

"A report surfaced last week that Microsoft was buying 3DV Systems, a company that makes motion-detection technology, for $35 million. My sources confirm that this is true.

Microsoft and 3DV declined to comment to me last week.

Motion-detection will be big for the future direction of Microsoft, as it reacts to the Nintendo Wii, which revolutionized the game console industry with its motion detection technology."
expecting a lot , from microsoft for the future console .

If this is true, then motion detection is coming to the Xbox 360 in some sort of way in the future....Confirm!

Microsoft's representatives have already stated in different interviews that they've just started to scratch the surface of whats possible with this product. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft announce something which involves motion detection and gaming at this E3....Though that's highly unlikely.

i don't think it will, atleast on the 360, and even if it did it won't become a mandatory feature since even MS wouldn't want to alienate their 24 ish million user base ..

3 years left for the 3rd xbox , implementing the feature in the newly manufactured will not be easy or some sort could be , dont have a clue how the motion detection works , it just cant work out of the box i recon , synchronizing will be the tech like a bluetooth on both motion controller and machine , lets leave it for the next box , will be easy for the dev's think about it in future .

edit :: hm its the eye toy type of thing ah well ..

There is already a software made that uses web cam to detect motions and then convert those motions to controler like commands for games. I saw a youtube of that software as well a while back ( around 6 months ago ) . Its not that hard to implement it in current xbox. They already have the camera all they have to do is add the software in any xbox360 update.

By the way the software I was talking about is a free ware.
