Saints Row: The Third is getting ported to the Nintendo Switch, publisher Deep Silver announced Tuesday, and I’m currently experiencing happiness mixed with a healthy dash of confusion.
Saints Row: The Third is a great game, but it was released in 2011 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox 360. The latest game in the series is 2013’s Saints Row 4, which was another great game, so why not release that instead of digging back into the history of the franchise?
Deep Silver did not give a release window for the Switch port of Saints Row: The Third. This all feels a bit random, although the announcement tweet says that there is “more info to be revealed in due course,” with a Gamescom hashtag. Today is the first official day of Gamescom 2018, so it’s possible we’ll be getting more details in the next few days.
This could be as simple as a technology limitation if Saints Row 4 proved impossible to bring to the relatively underpowered Switch, or it could be part of a broader strategy to start earlier so Saints Row 4 can also be ported over at a later date.
Or maybe we’re overthinking things and Deep Silver just likes this one the best, so that’s what it decided to bring over.
