Brother, it's useless buying the r9 290 with a custom cooler.

Go around and read the reviews everywhere. It's of no use.

Instead, you can buy r9 280x. There's no big difference. Just 1gb extra vram that you won't probably be needing in the near future.

GTA V on ultra settings 1080p doesn't exceed 3gb of vram usage. Personally checked.

I was also getting an r9 290 with stock cooler but I dumped the idea.

Hain ? R9 290 is alot better than r8 280x and it has more bits (512bit) meaning it's texture filtering speed will be much better than r9 280x and is built on Amd's new Hawaii Architecture while 280x is based on old Tahiti architecture. I had r9 290 and it was a beast

r290 is almost same as 7970
do u think company is fool that they provide 1gb more vram and more bits...

290 is far better from 280x.. pls do some homework before giving such advises..

yes only 1gb extra vram.. not good

also AMD is still low in performance as nvidia is good,

AMD heating up.. fan full noise. even windforce.. and more power comsuming... i might need more watts to crossfire the r9 280x gpu.. 700 watts isnt enough.. and gtx 970 sli will work though

Guys, guys. I agree.

It's better but not the ones with the stock cooler. Just ask people who are using it or who used it.

They'll tell you about it :)

Also Zainu, chill pill.

The company is not fool. They're making us fool, making new graphics card each month.

What do you think, they couldn't have added 1gb vram to r9 280x making it 4gb?

Do check out video reviews and in game FPS comparison before calling anything crap.

Spending 3k-4k extra on a shitty hardware for 10 FPS isn't worth it(that's my own opinion).

Check out this video:

Keep in mind, r9 290 Vapor X is used in this benchmark and that's one of the best cooler.

Look at the temperature differences.

Almost 15 degrees between 280x and 290.

On stock cooler, it might go up to 90 degrees.

Also read this about performance throttling in r9 290 on stock cooler:

Thank you.

Thank you.
I had the stock cooler one and it went upto 80-82 Max :) and it is certainly better. One will get 280x around ~22k and R9 290 around 25k so it's better to spend 3k to get 20 fps more.

If you have a well managed and ventilated system than reference one shouldn't be a problem

i think u seriously need to READ
when u are crossing 1080p then its ur vram that plays the role... now i wont go into nvidia vs ati but i have been using flagship gpus for past 6-7 years
and what i have noticed is that YEs nvidia is good they have better scaling in games but when u come to AMD.. Amd give bang for buck.. simple!

a 25k gpu will be competing from a 50k gpu of nvidia!

and if u are saying about heating up.. well reference cooler gpu do heatup quckly this is the reason companies like msi, asus puts up their custom cooler for better cooling solution....

I got no issues with the 25k and AMD gpus.

Except for the heating issues since I don't have good casing as well :p

With aftermarket cooler, 290 is a beast!

I have to call bull**** on that one. If that was the case, Nvidia would have been out of business long ago. Can you claim that a 280x, a 25k gpu can compete with a 780ti, a 50k gpu? AMD has better value for the money but it isn't that insane as you exaggerated. Nvidia evens up with better driver support and overall reliability.

a 25k gpu competes in some case, its not like that a 25k gpu beats a 50k nvidia gpu
in some games, or in some benchmarks Ati 25k gpu performed beyond expectations
@Voodoo

pls enlighten some info to this new champ :)

AMD always have better performance/price since the 1st day ...
AMD GPUs have better life than nvidia ... 7970/7950 around 3 years old but still inn ... while gtx680/670 almost obsoleted and not getting drivers support/favor like 7970/7950 still getting

baqi rha weather 290 can be found @ 25k or not, i personally never saw any 290 being sold at such price so far, might be after release of 3xx series ...

no doubt nvidia marketing is very strong which let people buy their GPUs at higher price than AMD ... gtx 770 which is equal or lower than 7970/280x still available around 25~27k while people don't pay 20k for 7970 .. similarly 290 & gtx 780 can be compared... even in many latest games 280x performs very near to gtx 780 .. the reason nvidia is not supporting 780/780ti in latest games so people forcefully buy gtx 970/980...

290 is a very powerful GPU and still having 1.5~2 year life in terms of gaming, but very hard to find it @ 25k at the moment...
