I was using 8mbs PTCL DSL in F/10-3 sector in Islamabad I was getting good speeds like 870kbs on downloads , watching movies in 720p online without any buffering or any disconnection I recently shifted to my new house in G/14 & had my net transferred here they installed it yesterday two linemen came & the senior one left after 5 mins and the junior one installed it he used old cables connected a thick cable with a small cable through twisting & left them in the open on the surface near my House gate I asked the lineman won't the cable get damaged when a car goes over it he told me to hire a labor and get him to dig and get it underground ( I checked my speed on speed.net & I was getting 6.83 where as in F/10 I was getting 7.90mbs ) & my net here is browsing slow even though I am using Google DNS & the videos are buffering even on 360p that's strange cause G/14 is a new sector so it has new PTCL lines installed here so I contacted the Senior lineman he told me he would replace the old cable with a new one & put it underground & connect the thick cable to the small cable through TPI adapter box so that will resolve my issue & he told me he would charge me 1200rs for that so I paid him and he did that today but that didn't make any difference in speed

Do yall think I am facing this issue due to he didn't replace the smaller cable? ( it had cuts on it)
or cause I am using the enternet cable that came with the DSL box instead of the expensive enternet cable that I was using in F/10 to connect the DSL device to my pc???

The first thing after Eid I am gonna do is get that old small cable with the cuts replaced

one of my friend suggested to call the helpline and ask them to change my port

Any other suggestions other than switching to a different internet service provider???

Spoiler: show

Switch to Nayatel.... LOL

1) Try using the other Ethernet cable. Though I highly doubt it can make that much of a difference.

2) Get the cable changed ASAP. Cuts/joints are not supposed to be there.

3) Only call to change your port IF the problem was not fixed with cable replacement.

Its good to see you again I don't know why on the Earth would they install old cables with cuts & joints cause its not like these linemen are paying for the cables from their pockets & he wasn't even suppose to charge me to do all that cause that's his job ( only reason I paid him was cause it was Sunday and Eid's coming so I couldn't find labour & even if I did they'd of charged similar ) by the way can you tell me what does changing the port means?? & yeah I thought about Nayatel but they charge 7k upfront & atm my priority is getting an UPS for my rig , Nayatel has both pros and cons though pros are all their lines are fiber optic , they provide an UPS with their device , low pings in games , good stability & good service teams but cons are you've to pay 7k upfront & purchase their UPS for 19k ( they give it on monthly installments too ) & only 5mbs & 55gb download limit at day time but at night time their speed becomes 7mbs or 10mbs ( depending on the package) & downloads become unlimlited

They do that to cut costs. Don't know why. They'll only install the new cable if you tell them to. Same shit happened with me. My DSL was fine after I replaced the cable.

I'm not really sure what they actually do when they change your port, but it's something related to the back-end stuff.

Why not go for Nayatel with monthly installments then? Seems like a good deal to me.

Cause I have to pay them upfront 7k or 8k & my parents don't support me on pc or net related support so I doubt they'd give me 7k for Nayatel Lol I've to pay myself from my pocket money & the cash I've right now I'll buy an UPS with it after Eid & if getting that cable & changing the port doesn't fix the issue I'll switch to Nayatel next month or the month after that , but won't 55gb downloads be a problem? when I was using wi-tribe with their so called endless-unlimited package they gave me 70gb downloads with 2mbs ( which was their top offering that time) & that would finish fast & had to upsize my gbs at least 3 times in a month ( even if you don't do any downloading just surf the net in general or watch videos your gbs reduce too) they give unlimited downloads from 8pm to 8am but won't that be a beneficial to someone who be up at night? LOL all of their homepackages have 55gb download limit but some say PLUS some say Mega & some say Ultra & some say exterme don't know the difference though do you think if I switch to Nayatel 5mbs at day and 10mbs with unlimited downloads at night & don't download any games at day just listen to songs on youtube & surf the net in general & download games at night will I be fine ? ( I use net a lot )

My cousins house has 4 adults and 2 kids. They have the highest Nayatel package and there hasn't been a single month where they went over the 55GB limit. If you are one person who uses net a lot, they are 6 people and they all use the internet very much.

55GB for your usage is fine. Just set all your downloads to happen overnight or on the weekend and you won't have any problems.

Yeah tbh I don't do shared net connection or give my WIFI password out to anyone cause I want the whole bandwitch for myself cause if the other person is watching a video or downloading something it can take a lot of bandwitch and give you higher pings and buffering in videos ( sometimes you have to be selfish for your own benefit) :p

I'll report back to you after a week if my problem gets solved or still occurs cause PTCL are closed for one week due to Eid

Do you want the SmartTV box or just to watch it on your laptop/PC?

If you want the box, you'll have to call 0800-80800 or visit your exchange.

If you want to watch it on your PC, you still have to call 0800-80800 and in 48 hours they'll send you a username and password which will let you log in to the app.

How much is the smartTV box is for? & does it decrease the net speed??? cause currently we don't have cable installed at our house in G/14 & the cable operators in G/13 are asking 3.5k for installation & after 2 months we'd have to buy digital box for the cable (Wastage of money) they're providing copper line with a fiber back bone same as PTCL LOL where as in F/10 the cable operators use to charge 1700rs 10 years ago then made the installations free and even started giving fiber to home & other option would be getting a Dish , what would you prefer Dish or smart tv box? & it same as digital box??? my family want to watch Pakistani channels , Indian channels & English channels , & is the PTCL smartTv box in HD? if so is it 720p or 1080p

SmartTV box is either 450 or 500 rs per month.

On a 8Mbps DSL connection, allocated bandwidth is 9215 kbps (in most cases), if you apply for SmartTV, they change it to 10240 so that your internet remains unaffected and the extra bandwidth gets used by the SmartTV when it's on.

My SmartTV doesn't have Indian channels.... I think. Never really checked since I don't use it.

The SmartTV with DSL is NOT HD. It's in Standard definition since the box is connected to the TV using AV (Yellow, white, red) cables.

Hello!

DWN offers a good selection of channels with some HD channels as well! I did make some recordings a long time ago (as recording is very easy with their box) ... available here (use MPC-HomeCinema for playback in case of trouble) ... channel numbers have gone up since then though!

We moved here recently to G13 ... tried out cable (free as they take electricity from house) ... we have a TV with DVB-C tuner builtin, so got to try out digital cable as well ... get lots of useless channels (read foreign non-English language) but HD channels are nice ... cable uptime is okay but we have already faced 1.5 day outage due to cable breakage ... miss the DWN in that aspect!

Anyways, if you are interested in DWN and wouldn't mind using a 'used' HD box (in great shape though with all packaging), PM me!

Regards,
Ahmed

I asked my neighbor here he told me the smartTV box is for 5k & that you can get it for monthly installments , so if I get the smartTV box on installments I'd have to pay 500rs for it monthly aswell as 450 charges so a total of 950rs monthly???

Hello Again!

DWN is a wireless cable operator www.dwn.com.pk
based upon MMDS technology!

Pros:
- Digital with few HD channels
- Great Uptime
- Easy to Relocate
- USB Recording
- Multi Audio Streams for some channels
- Monthly rent comparable to cable (even less)

Cons:
- Number of channels compared to 'wired' cable
- Channel changing time (some delay)
- Initial cost high (hd settop box)

Ahmed

I meant to say the SmartTV box that comes with DSL connections is the one without HDMI and only AV out.

I have GPON, so I have the Black Android based SmartTV box with HDMI out. It also has 3 pin out in case you want to hook it up to a sound system.

Wait I don't get it you said that only standard channels come on DSL right so after 2 months the cable operators are making you buy a digital box & hook up the cable with it & they say its HD , its basically in the name ''Digital'' box & the cable operators don't give fiber to home they give a copper line with a fiber back bone so how are they giving HD ???? & the only cable that can do digital is HDMI on tvs/consoles/DVD players & tv boxes ( I am aware that dvi & DP ( display port) are digital too but they're only on pc) So PTCL they're only providing the hdmi one on actual fiber? So I am guessing Nayatel must be giving one with HDMI since all their cables are fiber optic

& A/V is Analog right same as VGA input right? although vga can do 1080p but the quality is not the same as of a digital cable & A/V can do sound unlike VGA , A/V = Audio video
