Playstation PS3 not booting up, no response from Power button

Hey guys,

I have a PS3 Slim, 120 GB CECH2012 and it's jailbroken, running on Rebug 4.46.

Yesterday, I turned on the system and it didn't give me any video output. The green Power light is on. I haven't moved it anywhere, and I even attempted the video reset but still nothing. On top of that, pressing the power button doesn't initiate a beep, meaning that it's not responding. The eject button gives a beep though.

I entered Safe Mode and restored factory settings. The system began working again so I thought it was just a one-time issue. But then today, the same thing happened. Went into Safe Mode again, did the whole factory restore thing and it worked. I manually restarted the system a few times to see if the problem occurred again, and it didn't. However, after keeping the system turned off for 15 minutes and turning it on again, I was met with the same issue.

I do not know what to do now. Going into Safe Mode again is only a temporary issue.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit: I should also mention that a day before this issue occured for the first time, while I used my PS3 I saw some weird static on screen and the system got stuck. I had to force restart. I think this might be relevant.

take out ur hard drive and see if the problem persists, if it does than theres prolly something with ur ps3 for sure.

it could be the graphics part of ur ps3 is messing up something or just could be your hard drive messing up.

If your ps3 was opened before, it could be a number of issues. Try reinstalling the firmware. Download a fresh copy from the Internet. If the problem persists it's probably your power supply dying on you. Initial signs are freezing, then a day later it's random restarting, after a while it'll just die and it might take your system with it. Have it checked from a technician.

[MENTION=32988]Xerolt9[/MENTION] taking out ur HDD doesn't void your ps3 warranty but urs is already cfw so doesn't matter either way, HDD is on the side of the ps3 and doesn't consider as opening ur ps3

Take out your HDD and see if the problem persists. I kinda had the same problem and after taking out the HDD and then putting it back in fixed it. Although had to do a full format so all data was lost.

Removed and re-inserted the HDD, no change. Reinstalled the firmware, no change.
@faizy: Any idea? Is this repairable?

Btw, the system works sometimes out of the blue. I played a game for an hour without any problems, but once I turned it off and turned it back on, I was faced with the same issue. Once it turned on only to show those green dots and lines and then froze.

Bhai it can be anything ranging from Gpu to power supply. And yes, your system CAN function while your power supply is dying. These freezing issues support it. Show it personally to Faizy or a tech in your area. It may need reballing or a new psu!

3 years. That's what surprises me. Just three years, and I've taken very good care of it :\

I did that. It didn't work.

The weird part is that 25% of the time, it will turn on normally and let me play for as long as I want :S

That IS weird. And if it lets you play for a long time, then I don't think its the GPU or Power supply. It could be something HDD related like some times it accesses it, sometimes it doesn't.
If you have a laptop HDD lying around, put that in your PS3 and see what happens.

I think you should conclude this topic OP. Your PS3 will soon need reballing or reflowing. Either one will just extend its life expectancy a little more, maybe 1 month or a tad more.
Like [MENTION=23390]Major Aly[/MENTION] stated.....you may wanna think about making that YouTube video.
