Hi guys,

I'm facing a strange problem with my PTCL internet connection (or so I think it's my connection) but I've failed to get somewhere with the PTCL guys. Should have known better! Anyway, I'm posting the issue here, and wondering if you guys have some thoughts on this.

For the past couple of years, I have mostly been gaming on PlayStation platforms, and often visit this site called Playstation 4, PlayStation 3 Trophies, News, Guides & Forums at PlaystationTrophies.org when I'm in the mood to hunt some trophies and look for guides. Worth noting that I've had a PTCL connection for a few years now as well since they offer the highest speeds in my area. Anyway, sometime last year, the website (playstationtrophies) stopped working. I get the following error:

This webpage is not available

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
The server at Playstation 4, PlayStation 3 Trophies, News, Guides & Forums at PlaystationTrophies.org can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

When I use a proxy to access this site, it works. I have no firewall, the site seems to be working for the rest of the world, I haven't messed around with any DNS settings either. I just don't know why the site won't work. PTCL is clueless. So can anyone with some technical knowledge fill me in on what this means?

And while we're on this topic, I am no longer able to access the Game Informer website either. I simply get an internal server error. And the site used to work before.

What could be the issue in both or either of the cases?

use internet explorer or firefox and chances are the website will definitely open.

your copm has a virus/bug which stops chrome from accesssing frequently used website.

plus run a antivirus.

this is the exact reason why i have paid norton antivirus, at times i get the same thing, i run antivirus and restart my pc and the DNS bug is gone and the website opens, sometimes i even dont get facebook pictures loaded and when antivirus runs, it fixes for me.

Unfortunately, I've already looked into those options and scenarios and don't think that's the case. My computer is virus-free but just to make sure, I tried opening the site from two different computers (chrome and net explorer - tried both) as well as my mobile phone. Same result. Seems to be a network-related problem for sure.

Question, can I request someone with a PTCL connection here to confirm whether the aforementioned websites open for them or not? At least that will narrow down the problem.

mate basically, guys at PTCL are illiterate bazingas who have no idea what they are selling and maintaining.

0 product knowledge, but i like this service as i get 8 mb fo 2100 rupees with 15 ms ping which i absolutely adore for my intense mass usage so i manage to study their service myself and answer my own questions lol.

what you can do it, goto the chrome browser, in the link tab type 192.168.1.1 and press enter.

enter username admin and password admin.

now you have router settings opened, what you can do is first try rebooting the device, let it turn back on itself and see if that resolves, if not reset the router to factory settings, do not worry as the factory settings are of ptcl and this wont mess up anything only clears up the illness happening.

If this is indeed a DNS error, you should try changing your DNS to Google DNS.

Open up your router's web interface by doing what hashsohail mentioned and under the DNS tab, set the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

If this is indeed and truly a DNS error, then changing your DNS will resolve it. If not, you'll have to find the actual problem.

Haha, that's pretty much the only reason I use PTCL too. I get cheap 8mbps connection with great ping. I'm also on fiber optic so the speed is better than any other company in the area. I've actually tried them all, but nobody has the infrastructure that PTCL has to provide acceptable speeds for the price. Otherwise, I'd be done with these buffoons a long time ago.
