[h=2]Reminiscent of price hike for U.S. members last year[/h]
Sony will be increasing the price of its PlayStation Plus membership for European consumers starting Aug. 31. A full-year membership for those in the United Kingdom will go from £39.99 to £49.99. For those in the European Union, the price will jump from €49.99 to €59.99.
The information comes via anecdotal reports on Twitter of an email sent by Sony this morning to all PS+ members in Europe. The email has since been
verified by Eurogamer. No reason for the price increase was given in the email, although it does echo an increase for members in the United States last year.
PlayStation Plus is required for online play and offers other benefits to members. Chief among them are free games, doled out each month and added to user’s libraries so long as their membership stays current. Last year Sony gave its PS+ members a total of $1,150 in free games.
Other pricing tiers will also see rate increases. Single months will go from £5.99 to £6.99 and from €6.99 to €7.99, while three-month plans will go from £14.99 to £19.99 and from €19.99 to €24.99.
Reddit user SiliconRain created a handy chart breaking down the increases for the United Kingdom.
