TVs don't support all video and audio codecs through USB. Just convert the video to a different format. For example you can use mkv2vob and the end product will run fine through USB on your TV.

3D content is different. I converted an IMAX documentry and the 3D wasn't converted at all. The end result was that there was no 3D effect at all.

No it's not. A half SBS video is just like any other video file. You must have done something wrong which caused problems because I have converted more than 3 movies with mkv2vob and they all worked fine without any problem.

Although you will need other softwares for converting video if the source is an ISO instead of SBS video file.

I've been trying to get my hands on a D8000 Samsung Plasma for ages now. It's not available in any of the shops I've checked so far (here in Isb, in Lhr and Khi...) and the sites that claimed to have it don't anymore (shophive, buypakistan etc). I don't suppose anyone here knows a place where these are still in stock? The D550 is available at the sites, so I may just grab that if I get too tired of waiting.

Oh, and by any chance does anyone have an idea when this year's E models will arrive in Pakistan? The E6500 appears to be the ideal TV for my needs and even the E550 seems a pretty good upgrade over the D550.

I want a Plasma mostly because they have vastly better picture quality and are significantly cheaper (abroad at least). Sucks that they're not very popular in Pakistan though.

A properly calibrated d8000 led matches the picture quality of d8000 plasma and bests other plasmas in the same league.

Besides conversion, aren't current TVs able to play mkv files? I can vouch for the SONY TVs because I stream .mkv movies on it all the time.

The Samsung E6500 Plasma is the best 3DTV money can buy. Little to no crosstalk, very low input lag for gaming, hardly noticeable dithering (usually an issue on most plasmas), no image retention, works well with PCs (once you rename the HDMI label to 'PC').

Only one issue that has been mentioned in reviews is that it exhibits judder during fast moving scenes in 3D. Doesn't happen during 2d playback, though. This isn't really much of a deal breaker, because I'm sure it can be fixed via a future firmware update.

I suggest you wait for this if you plan on hooking up your PC to the TV, because it really is that much better than the E550. Neither of them have arrived in Pakistan as yet, though. The distributors say the new line of Samsung plasmas are scheduled to arrive some time in October.

:wink2:
Do you mean "streaming" or running video through USB? Because for streaming video format has nothing to do with what format TV can or cannot play. And as far as running through USB is concerned, Samsung TVs can certainly play mkv format movies without any issue (depending on TV model, I'm pretty sure LG and Sony TVs can as well). But all mkv videos don't have same video and audio codecs. Therefore even devices which play most mkv videos without any problem might be unable to play certain videos which use different codecs for either video or audio.

This is the problem I believe Journeys End was facing and for resolution of this issue, mkv2vob works very well. I faced audio codec issue in a few movies and just changing audio codec through this software fixed the problem (no, it didn't remove the 3D effect :p).
