Fat Princess is one of those games that are great for times when you are stressed out, bored or just need to blow off some steam. Featuring both Multi-player and Single-player modes, the game takes a lot of inspiration from today's first-person shooters, with large teams, player classes, flag captures and control points mixing adding a layer of strategic depth to the silly, cartoonish world of Fat Princes. With up to nine different battlefield maps, 4 game modes and five different character classes, the game is worth a look from hardcore and casual gamers alike.

Not for the faint of heart....

There are six different game modes; two single-player and four multiplayer. The story mode i.e. ‘Legend of the Fat Princess’ contains up to 12 chapters of awesomeness! The other single-player mode is called 'Gladiate', which allows players to choose anyone of the five character classes and fight alone against hordes and hordes of enemies, while trying to hang on to dear life. The multiplayer has two teams squaring off for ultimate domination. In ‘Rescue the Princess’, you have to free your princess from the enemy dungeon and get her back on your throne. However, you also have to make sure that the enemy team doesn't kidnap her for another 30 seconds before your team can claim victory. In ‘Snatch ‘n Grab’, you have to kidnap the enemy princess and place her in your castle dungeon 3 times, in order to win the game. The other two game modes completely eliminate the princess from the scene. As the name implies, ‘Team Deathmatch’ has you trying to kill anyone and everyone from the enemy team. Last but not the least, ‘Invasion’ lets you capture certain outposts throughout the map. Gaining control of more than 50% of the territories reduces enemy morale and puts you on your road to victory.

Another interesting aspect of Fat Princess is its character classes. Each of the five classes boasts its own unique abilities, and it is essential for all of them to work cohesively in order to end up victorious. However, all characters start their life as a villager, which is the weakest of the bunch and only has a 'slap' maneuver for a primary attack. Interestingly, it is also the fastest class, which can come in handy if you are looking for an easy way to capture the princess. You can change into other character classes by putting on their respective hats, which come from dispensers found in your castle or from fallen soldiers on the battlefield. The 'warrior' class is armed with a sword and can easily cut through enemies, while the 'Priest' can heal individual allies or a group of allies present within a specific radius. The 'Mage' and 'Ranger', the two ranged classes, can pick off enemies from a distance. The 'Mage' is equipped with a fire wand that can instantly fry enemies and slowly draining their life away, whereas the 'Ranger' stays away from the battle and shoots arrows at the other team. Lastly, the 'Worker', although not much of a fighter, can chop down trees, cut rocks, and produce raw materials needed for upgrading your team's class level and providing them new weapons. The raw materials can also be used for making powerful siege weapons, as well as erecting ladders, trampolines and bridges that make it easier to get past strategically guarded locations, and reach the other team's castle.

Unfortunately, the game suffers from some glaring online issues, which hamper the overall enjoyment. You'll often find yourself helplessly staring at a loading screen, as the game suddenly decides to hang up on you before you can even enter an online match. Playing with your friends is always better than relying on the semi-broken matchmaking system, but even then, the game isn't all silk and smooth. Once you are in an online game, you're bound to experience quite a bit of lag, accompanied by a few glitches here and there. Also, if there aren't enough players, bots fill up their place. That's all fine and dandy, but with exceptionally weak AI, these bots will fall to their death more often than not. Eventually, their presence becomes more of a liability, instead of being a convenience. However, provided that you can look past these nuisances, you will most definitely be able to enjoy the entire gore-infested medieval hack and slash fun that Fat Princess has to offer.
