Nintendo Switch eclipses Wii U lifetime sales in JapanOn target for worldwide mark by the end of MarchThe Nintendo Switch, reaching two impressive sales milestones in the past 10 days, has notched a third. It’s already sold more than the Wii U did, in Japan, in its six-year lifetime.Comparisons to Wii U sales have followed the Switch over the past 10 months as a way to show either this console’s extraordinary appeal, the lack of it for the Wii U, or both.In any event, Famitsu (as noticed by Resetera and Nibel earlier this morning) shows that the Switch reached 3,407,158 units sold by the end of the year, compared to the 3,301,555 sold by the Wii U over its lifetime. Again, those figures are for Japan.Earlier this week, Nintendo itself reported that the Nintendo Switch was the fastest selling console in the U.S., logging 4.8 million units by year’s end. That’s the highest 10-month total of any video game system in U.S. sales history, beating even the Wii craze of 2006-2007.But what is the global picture? We’ve been getting that data out of what Nintendo tells its investors at the end of each quarter. The company’s most recent guidance is that it expects to move 14 million Switches by the end of its fiscal year (in March) and that, too, would edge the Wii U’s global lifetime-to-date sales (13.56 million). The next report should be sometime at the end of this month.Expect Nintendo to check in again with another fastest-selling milestone for the Switch once the console reaches its first year of sales on March 3. If the Switch was the fastest-selling console in the U.S. after one month, and after 10 months, it’ll probably be the fastest-selling one after 12 months, too. The console also has the 10-month record in Japan, where the title holder had been the PlayStation 2 JANARIOO ok ok thank you :p

I wish more AAA titles come to the switch. Its a fantastic idea. I have not touched any games on mobile since i started carrying it around. About that most games on mobile now seems crap compared to the games on switch.

Hey btw. Did we do any zelda review on pg? I am almost 130 + hours in the game. Would love to do one because I discovered it pretty late in last December. [emoji23]

The Nintendo Switch has eclipsed the Wii U’s lifetime hardware salesNintendo has a huge hit on its handsNintendo has sold 14.86 million units of the Nintendo Switch in its current fiscal year, according to the company’s own numbers, with 52.57 million units of software sold alongside the system through Dec. 31, 2017.That’s an amazing accomplishment for a console that’s less than a year old, and it already beats the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.56 million units of hardware. The Switch launched worldwide in early March 2017.Nintendo is hitting home runs on the software side of things as well, as the company’s recent financial report — which covers the first three quarters of the company’s 2017 fiscal year, the period from April through December — pointed out.“For the Nintendo Switch software, Super Mario Odyssey was released in October and has been a big hit, with global sales reaching 9.07 million units,” Nintendo said. “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, released in April, has sold 7.33 million units, and Splatoon 2, released in July, has sold 4.91 million units, bringing to 8 the total number of million-seller titles for this fiscal year including the titles of other software publishers.”The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has also sold 6.7 million units on the Nintendo Switch.These are huge numbers for the first-party games and the hardware itself, and it doesn’t look like this sales momentum is going to let up anytime soon. This is quite the victory lap for Nintendo, a company that doubled down on what worked about the Wii U and got rid of the rest to release a console that seemingly everyone wants to buy.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch deletes playtime data after a year[/h]

[h=2]Have your hours been reset?[/h]

Nintendo users are finding that their logged playtime data from one year ago, when the console launched, is gone. It appears that the system is resetting the amount of time for which games have been played since on or before March 2, 2017 — suggesting that the Switch only tracks the month and day players first started up a game, not the year.
This is best explained with an illustrative example. Polygon received a pre-release Nintendo Switch review unit on Feb. 24, 2017. We began playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that same day. Although we’ve poured hundreds of hours into the game since then (how else do you think we could have made our guides?), that same Nintendo Switch now says we only started playing Breath of the Wild six days ago. It appears that sometime around when the console turned 1 year old, it erased 365 days’ worth of activity from the Zelda playtime log.
An entire year’s worth of Zelda playtime data, gone. Sorry, Dave. Dave Tach/PolygonWe already know that the Switch takes a week before updating the user profile with the number of hours you’ve played a game for. That’s why our activity log only says when we apparently began playing the game, and not how many hours we’ve played it for since Feb. 24. But it seems unlikely that, when tomorrow rolls around and the Switch presumably begins noting our hourly playtime for Breath of the Wild, the activity log will reflect our true historical play data.
Other early Switch adopters are reporting that their launch-day consoles — the Switch technically launched March 3 worldwide — have also wiped their playtime records.ResetEra members and Reddit users say that their 500-plus hours in Breath of the Wildhave now been reduced to a simple, inaccurate note: “First played zero days ago.” Considering how limited the Switch’s activity log is anyway, this is a big issue for anyone who likes to keep track of their playtime.
We’ve reached out to Nintendo about whether this is a bug, not a feature. We’ll update accordingly.

Update: In a statement to Polygon, Nintendo of America said that play data is currently “displaying incorrectly” for some users.
“Some Nintendo Switch owners’ play activity information is displaying incorrectly,” the company’s statement reads. “We are aware of the issue and we expect to have more information to share in the near future.”

[h=1]Nintendo Switch system update adds small fixes, hidden features[/h]
[h=2]Your bugged-out play time may already be restored[/h]

Nintendo released a new system software update for the Nintendo Switch on Monday, adding some relatively minor features to the console. But there are some fixes and apparently some unannounced new features included as part of the update, numbered version 5.0.0, which will make a lot of Switch users happy.
One of the more important bug fixes in the system update relates to Play Activity. Switch owners noticed recently that their play time had been reset to zero in games they started playing one year ago, a bug related to the console’s calendar. This week’s update should fix that, according to Nintendo.
The update also includes a new way to find friends through Facebook and Twitter, as well as updates to parental controls.
Switch users are also reporting some updates not listed in the version 5.0.0 update, including unconfirmed fixes for Joy-Con syncing and improved support for USB wireless headsets.
Here’s the official word on what’s included in Switch software version 5.0.0, fromNintendo’s support website:

[h=1]Hori is making a left Joy-Con with a D-pad — with several catches[/h]

[h=2]Only works in portable mode, no rumble[/h]

Hori is making a left Joy-Con controller for the Nintendo Switch that features a cross-button directional pad, in lieu of the stock Joy-Con’s four buttons, but it comes with some serious drawbacks.
The first is that it appears to be available in Japan only. But even if it does come west, or if you import it, there are several functions on the Switch it does not support. Notably, it only works in handheld mode, meaning you can’t slap this and the right Joy-Con into the Joy-Con Grip and play off the TV, nor does it work for local multiplayer.

Even playing with it in handheld mode loses more features on the left side: No HD rumble and no gyroscope. And there’s no SL or SR button use, or the Sync or Player LED light, but as these are on the side of the Joy-Con that is docked to the Switch, you wouldn’t use them anyway. Oh, and, it only comes in dark blue, so it may not match your current Joy-Con color coordination.
Hori’s page touts it as perfect for playing fighting games and classic titles, with a D-pad in its traditional gamepad location, down by the left thumb. For those who want both the feeling and aesthetics of a D-pad and don’t mind losing the rumble or tilt control on the left side, the D-pad left Joy-Con will go for ¥2,480 when it launches in July, which is almost $24 USD right now.
For those who insist on a D-pad but need more versatility, there’s always the Pro Controller when your Switch is docked or in kickstand mode.
