hi i recently bought via online
NETGEAR DG834GT modem n router


this lil device is working as wifi router but not as a modem
i plug in the DSL phone line
evn though on 192.168.0.1 i did all settings n it shows coonected to DSL

buit still no browsing
i think the issue is with DNS
if anyone genius can help.....
plz help

have someone come over from ur ISP (internet service), to have a look at it. Better yet call them to see whether they can guide you over the phone

I have the same modem plus router (NETGEAR DG834GT) and also i can only use it as a router.My brother has sent this to me from london because it was spare.I am also not able to use it as a modem because there is no any setting page for the modem.Also word SKY is written on this nergear modem plus router.After searching on internet , i come to know that it is locked by sky broadband( A broadband company of UK).So, in order to use modem it is necessary to unlock it by flashing its
firmware. But the software required for flashing is not working on my computer.For flashing this is the procedure http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/skyDG834GT_flash.htm

@abcd12 yep ure ryt its the same one sky router but i have unloked it flashed it n upgraded the firmware after providing settings i c in its config page 192.168.0.1 as connected tp ptcl but the problem is in DNS so if anyone who has been using this tell me plz

Can you tell me that the procedure you adopted is same as mentioned above.Tell me so that i can flash my modem n router and make it able to work as modem because the flashing software is not working for me.After flashing i will try my best to make
it work.

Can you tell me that how you flashed it because netgear recovery utility hangs on my system in flashing.I also want to us it as modem.May be i could help you after flashing.

OK, For PTCL starting from scratch. Try the following

1) Reset the router to factory defaults.
2) Create Wan Connection.
- Set connection type PPPoE
- Username/Pass etc
- Connection Type Dynamic IP (Don't enter any gateway or DNS ips. Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
- Call PTCL and find out your area's VPI/VCI ---------------------------------------------------------------->This might be the problem.
- Encapsulation PPPoE LLC / Bridge Interface Disabled / Connection Always on.
- TCP MTU 1492

These are the general settings that should be the same. Post a screen of your WAN connection setup page as well. Try this.

VPI=0 / VCI=103 or vise versa would solve yr problem.... With me it connects perfectly and browsing is also ON, but doesn't stay stable, connection drops very frequently.. Dilemma is that PTCL helpline representative says that "we don't provide any support for Netgear".. they only provide that Shitty shiro modem but astonishingly it stays stable. I guess coz they have shitty Chinese telephone exchanges that are compatible with shitty modems only...
