Hey guyz. I need some suggestion and help regarding shipping of some items that i want to get from Canada.

I will be importing few mobile phones and laptops. Can anyone suggest me about efficient method to ship those items from Canada and also the custom duty on those cellphones and laptops. Quantity will be around 5 mobiles(iPhone 4s,SGS3,Galaxy Note) and 2 laptops. All these items will be used.

I will appreciate your help in this matter.

dude i imported two 5870s , and i was charged with 8000 duty...
so be careful.

cell phones and laptops are luxury items, their percentage is extremely high. As far as i know it was 30% last month..
this is the way , how these custom people apply duty on luxury items.

30% CD (custom duty)
17 or i think 18% sales tax
5%FED (federal excise duty)
5% ADDITIONAL SALES tax.

so total percentage would be 57% +- 5%

under invoicing the declared value wont help u these days because there are custom appraisal officers and their only duty is to rectify the declared value.
they have rate lists of current prices etc, If they find any thing whose rate isnt mentioned in their rate lists , they simply search the original price of the item through INTERNET.

i have extremely bad experiences in past with these custom guys.

and another important point.
never mention "used stuff" about ur items on custom form(it is a form , where detailed description , values of the items are mentioned by the sender).
these morrons have passed new rule, under which all the used stuff will get confiscated and to get them released is another big "KHUAWARI".

Thanks for your reply. So it seems it is really pain in the *** to deal with those custom officers. My cousin brought 100 pieces of Nokia E73 from canada and he had to pay Rs. 2,75,000/- custom duty. But i think it changes according to the custom officers at the spot.

And what about shipping? Which channel is better to import them except for the one which involves my relatives to come here.

every country has their local post offices. like USPS in america, ROYAL MAIL in uk and CANADA post in canada.
http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/track/personal/findByTrackNumber?execution=e2s1

the cheapest way is to send through these local post offices. There are different options to send depending upon how quickly u need the item to be delivered,
choose the one which provide tracking code, i suggest u to choose any expedited mail , which takes no more then 7 days to reach pak, but its bit expensive then normal priority mail.

I imported a laptop and a mobile (iPhone 4S) from USA Paid 7k on the laptop and 1500rs duty on the mobile, ask your relatives to mark the package as GIFT and write the value of the item under $100 it will save you some custom charges here and get the packages shipped from UPS or FedEX they are very fast and good service (the charges are higher then the local post service but definitely worth it) i got my laptop shipped via USPS and it took them over 1 month to deliver the item.
