Morning everyone,

A very good friend of mine has a PS3 Super Slim with 12GB onboard flash memory.
Now I know that any laptop 2.5" SATA HDD can work with PS3 but it requires a mounting bracket.
I also understand that the official PS3 HDD comes with a mounting bracket.

Please advise the best & relatively cheaper course of action for upgrading the PS3 HDD.

  • I did not see the official PS3 HDD on PG Marketplace. Is anyone selling it?
  • Also, in case of third party brands what is the cost for 250GB or less laptop HDD in Pakistan? Also where to buy the mounting bracket?

Much appreciated.

firstly.,.. there is no such thing as an Official PS3 HDD ... there is only the Official PS3 HDD mounting Bracket.

second, laptop HDDs in pakistan only come with a capacity of 500GB or more(im talking about new) which costs round about 6-7k with warranty

you can plug the hdd in directly and fit in some thermopol for cushioning and security .... that will save you on the cost ...

but if you still want the bracket, no one in pakistan(none that i know of) have this in stock.... you will have to import or get it imported from abroad...

cost should be around 8-10 dollars exluding customs and shipping .... if you need help importing .. you can contact me :)

you will have to find one then ... but it will probably be expensive than usual HDDs

So if we want to increase the space of hdd, just connect externally lapy hdd? Is that it?
Would it detect & store games downloaded from store?

bro lappy hdd is actualy an internal hdd, if u want to increase ur ps3 storage, u wil have to replace ur internal hdd wid a larger sized hdd (that of lappy, ofcourse).
lappy hdd cannot be used as external hdd unless u put that lappy hdd into a usb enclosure. An external hdd can be used to increase ur storage space of PS3, where u can store ur psn downloaded games, afaik.

Yeah I meant that unless lappy hdd isn't connected by some external brackets it won't work at all,
Coz those connection provide an usb-faced interface,so this means we do can increase storage space of ps3 to store ps-store games on it by means of external hdd.

12gb s.slim ps3 has got no physical internal hdd, but a 12gb memory chip. there is space to put a physical hdd into the ps3 just like in slims. so, yes, an internal hdd (lappy hdd) can be installed inside a 12gb ps3. it just needs a bracket (which is not available easily as faizy said), if u cant find bracket, just plug the hdd inside carefuly, make sure the sata connectors are seated, and then put some foam on periphery of the drive to make it firm and steady, thats it.
