After trying to play games on an old C2D and having to lower settings all the time cuz of it, I want to get an upgrade to something that can last me an year or two on high settings. I don't exactly have a budget because I'll be buying the products every month but I'd prefer something on the cheap end. Also some background I already have a Chassis (CoolerMaster Centurion 5) & GPU (R7 250x 2GB variant) and a 650watt PSU from ULTRA, not sure if that's a good brand or not.

The current build I've been recommended is:
Mobo : ASUS H81M-K = Rs. 5,500
Proc : Intel Core i5-4460 = Rs. 20,500
RAM : Kingston 4GBx2 = Rs. 6600

If you guys have any better recommendations I'm all ears.

My i3 2100 bottlenecks my GPU severely, but it can still run games pretty well. Games like Dying Light, COD AW, Inquisition run pretty well on my system on max settings. Dips to around 40 FPS or so can be seen in heavy situations in Inquisition. However Dying Light and COD AW run and give 60 FPS 95% of the time.

An i3 4th gen is like 15% faster I think and should be plenty good for any mid-range GPU. Still, I haven't tried the very latest games like GTA V on my i3 2100 so I can't say how well the demanding games coming in summer would run.

Nothing less than i5 while you're building from ground up

You NEED a good processor to support GPU for now AND for future upgrades.

A smaller processor will become a bottleneck fairly quickly.

I would agree with blastwave.

Go for the Gigabyte motherboard since it has a better colour combo. Its completely black. Themed builds look extra attractive :D

With rams I would suggest go for Gskills or Corsair.
The processor a Core i5 chip.

For the GPU , if you plan on upgrading in the coming time and have a tight budget R9 280X seems like a good option.

The bottleneck is the reason why I'm thinking of getting an i5 instead of an i3, I'd rather not go through the hassle of having a bottlenecked gpu.

Also, I don't care about color coordination I just want something that works. :p

Edit : Updated OP with the PSU info.

Go for the combo You've mentioned. Its the best you can get right now. Although there is no drastic difference between Ivy Bridge and Haswell. But you won't be able to find Ivy bridge CPU's Brand new anymore, So i5 4460 is your best bet.

BTW I've similar system. It doesn't even bottleneck a GPU like GTX 970. Let alone RX270 :).
