Hi all. First I know that this is DSL@pakistan thread but I hope my problem isn't relevant to the country. I moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 3 months ago. I have splitter/filter installed so the phone calls can be splitted. Initially, I got 512kbps connection from the BEST ISP in here. But I had major problems. First, my DSL connected at random speeds like 160, 384, 480, 512 & 544kbps. Whenever I connect to the internet using 512, the line drops after 1 to 4 minutes MAX. I called technical support 1000 times. They sent their technician and he thought that the port (back in the ISP or phone provider) was faulty. They changed that. Still the problem remains.
I degraded my speed to 256kbps and that works gr8 ALMOST. I mean, it stays connected most of the time but it too tends to disconnect FREQUENTLY to RARELY. e.g. with 256kbps, I have at most 1 or 2 disconnections per day.
Finally, the technician found out that the LINE was of low quality. The original wire has 4 colored wires. I bought a new wire, i.e. pure copper heavy load that contains a pair (2 wires). But to my dismay, DSL wont even connect ONCE.
Now, please advise me what kind of wire do I need to install or any other advise u can give me?
BTW the exchange is 6km away from my home.
