Thanks beloshi. Thats the video and info i was searching for. And a person here said that Zakir Naik said that music was absolutely allowed. lol
dude r u even listening(well reading in this case) to what every body else is saying..........i said that i vaguely remember
never said i m 100% sure and if u havnt seen it before check it out
Narrates ‘A’ishah (rta): The Messenger (sws) of God came to my residence while two female singers were singing the songs of Bu‘ath.1 The Holy Prophet (sws) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Meanwhile Abu Bakr (rta) entered and [seeing the singers] rebuked me thus: ‘Satanic musical instruments in the presence of the Holy Prophet (sws)?’ On hearing this God’s Messenger (sws) turned towards him and said: ‘Let them [sing and rejoice]’. When Abu Bakr was engaged in some other business, I signalled to the girls [to go out] and they left. It was on the ‘Id day.2 (Bukhari, No: 907)
We can conclude from this narrative the following points:
· The Mother of the believers, ‘A’ishah (rta), was listening to songs on ‘Id day.
· The songs were being sung in the residence of the Holy Prophet (sws).
· A professional singer was performing.3
· The song was not a hymn to God; rather a relic of a war fought before the advent of Islam.
· The mother of the believers did not stop listening to the song even after the Holy Prophet had arrived.
· The Holy Prophet (sws) did not forbid her from listening to the song.
· He did not stop the female singers either.
· He himself was not attracted to the performance but he must have heard the song as he could hear Abu Bakr’s comments.
· Abu Bakr (rta) condemned the practice at first sight and declared that these were satanic instruments.
· When he tried to stop the singers and censure the listeners, the Holy Prophet (sws) stopped him from doing so.

I will not pretend that you are wrong. This guy has a definite point.
There are quite a few hadiths which are unauthentic. Infact my Islamiat teacher said that after Hazrat Muhammad's death, a lot of islam haters started making wrong hadiths.
But Junaid Jamshed replied to this in a very awesome way.
He said that yes this hadith could unauthentic but thats not a chance i'm going to take. What would i reply to Allah when i'm standing in front of him if i was wrong??
Get my point?
I think ill take that chance. And why will i take that chance ? Yusuf Islam, formely known as Cat Stevens, a popular Artist converted to islam. He believed singing is haram and only used the duff but then his 2006 album. He had a change of thought. Now im sure that change of thought he made was by senseful means. And tell me, who has more faith, a born muslim or a muslim convert ? i aint saying they are different Muslims but its a common fact, Converts have more faith than born Muslims do.

Im comparing Yusuf Islam with Junaid Jamshed, but im sure you understood. :p

CALMLY: You don't understand SIMPLE logic. Have you read all of my posts? Please re-read your post. It makes no sense. What was his change of thought? What was he doing?
You have made up your mind abt this. So no use of arguing.

Read this first.

Ok my mistake, i thought there were people in PG who knew people other than Zakir Naik and Junaid Jamshed, and somehow bothered listening to them.

But what i am saying is before his 2006 album he also believed that using instruments other than Duff is haram and similar beliefs. Now, the change of thought part. Im saying that Ysusf Islam declared different views about music in Islam, had Change of thought of music in Islam, rethought about music in Islam. Duh thats what im talking about, thats what the thread is about, in this case i understand simple logic, you, im sorry to say, lack common sense.

"What was his change of thought?" look at the topic, Duh. about music, music related.
"What was he doing?" look at the topic, Duh. about music, music related.

Well thats another case if you never really followed Yusuf Islam alot, i for one admire him very much

Since when did this become an argument? this is just discussion. And i went thru all your posts don't worry about that at least.

Its depends on what you think. There are Muslim scholars that consider consider nusic haram. some consider music halal, and some haram with exceptions

Prof. Ghamdi may be wrong or he may be right, that is up to you to decide

And that's where I beg to differ. I don't believe in ahadith, nor does my family. Sorry.

...I do?!?! No way!

Oh wait. I don't.

If you do not believe on ahadiths then what kind of Muslim are you???

In Quran there is not mention how to say prayer we get information about that from Ahadith. So Won't you offer Prayer AKAI???

i ought to kill you and eat your liver just for that.
Yeah, you could but you can't because you're not a cannibal... or are you ? j/k

Ok now i think this endless discussion will go on and on and on and on till the end of time but there will be no one who is gonna be able to come up with a real verdict.

So let me just make the closing statement:

Since the extreme misconceptions of thoughts of music in Islam (whether it be haram or halal) a site like PG can't give you the answer. this is not a religious site anyways so people cant give you a firm statement on this site. We may be Muslims but as you know Muslims vary in ethics and thoughts. Even at the place that different sects in Islam have been created (altho its shouldn't be this way, but it is)

@r3aper:

Now the question on music. My answer would be that this is up to you to decide. You have been given the in-favour Verdicts and the agaisnt Verdicts. Proof of whether music is Haram or whether music is Halal. Go thru all suitable points and sources. Here are two links one tells music is haram and one tells music is halal.

Haram (there are also two videos about this if you look thru the form. But they merely describe the same thing)

Halal (just don't take it for its length and do read all of it,same goes with the one above (y))

the opts have been given to you. Now its up to you to decide.

I think its about time this thread got closed.

If you are unsure whether music is Haram or not then seek it's answer from an Islamic scholar in which you have faith that he will not miss guide you. This is not the right place for asking this question because we all who come here belong to different sects ( Sunni, Shia, Ahl e hadith, Barelvi Deobandi etc.) and we all have different sets of beliefs. Everyone will give his answer to you according to his own belief.

No, if you're unsure about this, read the Qur'an. Period.
