Windows Phone 7 Series is as awesome as it is verbose. The new offering from Microsoft in the mobile realm is looking to be quite the competitor. With an interface the likes of which has never been seen on a phone and ambitious goals, it has a lot to live up to, especially if it plans to overtake Android and the iPhone in smartphone shares. Here's the Story starting with a peek into the interface.

Today Microsoft launches one of its most ambitious (if not most ambitious) projects: the rebranding of Windows Mobile. The company is introducing the new mobile OS at Mobile World Congress 2010, in Barcelona, and if the press is anything to be believed, this is just the beginning. The phone operating system does away with pretty much every scrap of previous mobile efforts from Microsoft, from the look and feel down to the underlying code -- everything is brand new. 7 Series has rebuilt Windows Mobile from the ground up, featuring a completely altered home screen and user interface experience, robust Xbox LIVE and Zune integration, and vastly new and improved social networking tools. Gone is the familiar Start screen, now replaced with "tiles" which scroll vertically and can be customized as quick launches, links to contacts, or self contained widgets. The look of the OS has also been radically upended, mirroring the Zune HD experience closely, replete with that large, iconic text for menus, and content transitions which elegantly (and dimensionally) slide a user into and out of different views.
A 22-minute walkthrough of the interface, that's right 22 minutes!

The best thing is that MS has actually shown something unique which is really different from others and more interesting.

However, keep fingers crossed for more details!

Judging by how well they handled the Zune HD, this should go well. I hope it does.
I sooo want this. Android is great but the UI on this is just, just jizz-worthy.

Windows Mobile is Dead; Meet Windows Phone 7

Steve Ballmer took to the stage in Barcelona today to take the wraps off Microsoft's latest iteration of its smartphone OS, Windows Mobile.
Zoom
Ballmer today introduced attendees at MWC to Windows Phone 7, the latest update to its mobile phone software. Unlike previous point updates to Windows Mobile, Windows Phone 7 is being touted as a complete reboot of the mobile OS.
"Windows Mobile is dead," said Aaron Woodman, director of the Mobile Communications Business for Microsoft's Consumer Experiences Product Management team.
Speculation in recent months had pointed toward a 'Zune Phone' branding system but MS has said the phones will stick with the Windows moniker. That said, the UI does bear a certain resemblance to that of the Zune HD.
PCMag reports that Windows Phone 7 uses a bold array of tiles and pivoting panels to let users easily access their personal information, Zune music and Xbox Live gamer card.
The main screen consists five 'live tiles.' These are separate boxes for Internet Explorer, phone, text, people, pictures and Multimedia/Zune. With just three physical buttons, WP7 includes a dedicated Bing key for searching.
Ballmer has said Windows Phone 7 devices will be available in time for the holiday period and HTC has plans to release a Windows phone in the fourth quarter of this year. Other partners include Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Qualcomm.
Most interestingly, all four of the major U.S. carriers are on board; AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon will all carry Windows Phone 7 devices. As far as Europe is concerned, you've got Deutsche Telekom, Orange, SFR, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telstra, and Vodafone.
