Retro Studios is continuing its rapid hiring spree for Metroid Prime 4, and this time it's picked up one of the designers of 2018's God of War.

Retro Studios, developer of the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, has just hired another high-profile industry professional to work on the game. Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced during E3 2017 in order to build up even more excitement for the newly-released Nintendo Switch, but fans didn't get any other information on the game until last year.

After Nintendo made the deflating announcement that Metroid Prime 4 had to be scrapped and restarted from scratch, development of the game was transferred entirely to Retro Studios. Retro is responsible for the other mainline Metroid Prime games, but was not initially involved with Metroid Prime 4. Now that it has taken up the mantle once again, the studio has been on a hiring spree for top talent in the industry. Recently, Retro hired the director of the cult hit Warhawk as the new director of development for Metroid Prime 4. Apparently, the team has just expanded even further.

As spotted by user morromocotudo on the ResetEra forums, Retro Studios has just brought on Jon Marcella as an environment designer for Metroid Prime 4. Previously, Marcella had worked at Sony's famed Santa Monica Studio for nearly 10 years. He served as a senior level designer for 2018's widely lauded God of War as well as God of War: Ascension before that.

The information is taken from Marcella's LinkedIn account, which simply states that he became an environment designer on Metroid Prime 4 about three months ago. There are no other details about the position or the game itself, at least not yet. There are still a number of high-level positions open on Retro's official website as well, so it's unlikely that the studio will be showing off anything to do with Metroid Prime 4 any time soon. Especially with high-level positions still being filled, it's quite unlikely that Retro has Metroid Prime 4 in anywhere a state where it's happy to show off its work. Given how long fans have been waiting, a premature showing now could only do the game harm.

While it's obvious that Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 far too early, the fact that the IP is back in Retro's hands is encouraging. Still, there are a lot of necessary positions that have only just been filled, which makes it seem like the game itself has barely gotten started. Even if that's true, though, all the talent that Retro has been bringing on board seems more than capable of delivering a great Metroid title - even if it that particular Metroid title won't come out for a few more years.
