What do you think of AMD vs Intel laptops. Like prior to 12th gen almost every benchmark shown them great. A friend of mine wanted to buy a laptop for himself and wanted recommendations.

I had recommended him to go for 12th gen Intel but those were beyond his budget so asked him to go for 5800h or 5900h. His colleagues at IT department suggested him against it (AMD) by saying these gets hot and have a low lifespan.

Is it really the case?

No, on the contrary, Intel takes the cake on this front now (pwr consumption and heat).

Exactly, same were my thoughts as Intel TDP is much higher than that of AMD. Don't know how could those IT staff (who actually are handling servers and hardware stuff) would say that. I bet they never used/seen one.

This would depend upon the laptop model (and its cooling solution) in large part.

My laptop features a well-designed cooling solution with two cooling fans and 5 airflow openings in total. Manufacturer software application further provides the option to choose aggressive fan speed mode to control CPU thermals if necessary.

Additional factors and considerations are following:

1. Laptop cooling pad.
2. Room temperature.

AMD has come a long way, their mobile chip options are great while using lower wattage and generating lower heat compared to the latest Intel. The 5800h and 5900h are both great options, just make sure your friends upgrades the factory NVMe SSD with a proper samsung 970 Evo at least (unless it actually ships with a decent SSD)

I recently picked up 15 laptops for the office with ryzen 5 5500U's, working really good.

6800U is like pretty much the best mobile cpu. And in general the best cpu, other than the steam deck one. This is because it comes with a RDNA 2 iGPU! So it’s bassically a RX 6350 or something like that in an apu

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
