I dont know how many of you know about this, but if you own a linksys router you can easily increase its range without buying anything.. i wanted to increase my wrt54g's range and i couldnt get any external antennas in my city so i just installed a custom firmware for my router from here:

http://dd-wrt.com/

How does it increase the range?

It increases the power going to the transmitter in your router hence boosting the signal.. you can custom increase the power going to the transmitter once you install this firmware by going to your routers page, but i wouldnt recommend that because increasing the power can decrease your routers life and cause some other problems.. the default value of the new firmware is usually the best..

i feel a pretty significant change in the range of my router already and it took me barely 5 minutes to get it working.. one final note:

BEWARE, THIS PROCEDURE VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY AND MAY BRICK YOUR ROUTER

Check out Tomato firmware too. I think that your router would be supported by both DD-WRT and Tomato. And you are right that if you give your router too much amperes, its circuit life is decreased because it is not meant to run on that high current ratings. But its an awesome way to boost up 4x times the range of your current router.

And not only are Linksys routers supported but many others too, like some net gears, some D-Link, some Asus. But no China routers like Tenda are supported :(

Anyways, wat are the chances that i may brick my router ? And if i do, any way to fix that ? :p

50% :p Thats because of the Load shedding problems. Otherwise, no biggie.

BTW, do check whether this firmware IS compatible with your router or not. And dont put the mA settings too high after successful flashing otherwise, you know, it will literally get fried.

Uhh ... ohkay o_O

loadshedding not a problem, the switch to the UPS is fast enough so that the router/modem doesn't turn off :)
p.s: where can find the 'revision' of my router ? EDIT : found it. its ver 7.0 but that unfortunately isn't supported, wtf <____<
