I don't even understand why is it even on by default in Intel chips. So far i haven't seen any drastic changes in hyper threading besides my 7700k getting high temps and decreased performance in gaming. What is even the point of hyperthreading. Since we are on the topic has anybody seen any performance with it.Also those using latest gen what are your views on Intel speedshift technology?

Simple. Run a synthetic benchmark with and without HT to see difference.
HT is used to utilize CPU while it "might be" idle during cycles.
And quite a few application get boost by HT like video encoding, compression and encryption. Some games favout HT, a few drop frames but most of the games show fps difference in margin on error. Analyze your frame times to get a better idea how HT affects the games you play.

Well 7th gen very well know for Overheating and high temps.
for high end CPus like yours you wont see any performance improvement or loss with HT On/Off.
Though with HT on you will see your CPU temps rising. Also HT ON helps in CPU demanding tasks like rendering, video encoding n stuff like that.
If you really want to know the performance of HT on/off. I'd say Run a Cinebench with HT on/off and see the score difference.

Well, in your case there's no need for hyper threading, unless some background tasks in process alongwith front end gaming.
