May be people out there are not aware that it is possible to install Linux on PS3, actually the host OS inside PS3 is itself running a variation of Linux. There are a number of Linux variation to choose from
YDL (Yellow Dog Linux) Official Linux Distribution for PS3.
Ubuntu
Fedora Core
Debian
OpenSUSE
Gentoo linux
Its runs fine, but the problem is the memory size of PS3 which is only 512 MB, and it is not possible to upgrade so you are stick to the 512 MB. But still it can handle basic stuff like music and internet browsing. I personally installed Fedora Core 3 which is runs fine for me at least as long i don't any CPU intensive tasks.
