How to Handle Wrist Pain Caused by Frequent Use of Mouse ???

I am a regular user of Computer. I do use it for hours and hours. Thereafter I use laptop. So most of the time, my right hand remained busy with mouse. Even while reading something on the screen, still as a habit, my hand stays on the mouse.

As a result of frequent and excessive use, I feel pain in my right hand, its wrist and even in the arm upto shoulder. I understand it is because of excessive use of mouse. I cannot stop my activity while the pain is on rise by every passing day.

Have any of you guys face this type of problem attributed to coroutines / uninterrupted use of mouse ? Are there any remedial steps which could lower my pain ? Can it cause any serious threat if I continue ignoring the problem ?

You got RSI (repetitive strain injury) , get a gel pad/ wrist pads and put it under your wrist. I have seen some in Haroons, Illusions. If you cant find that, get a small piece of foam, about 2-4mm think and put it below your wrist.

It happens cuz the nerves that work your muscles of the hand get compressed at the wrist. cuz its facing a hard surface. If you got a lot of pain get go to a doctor, he will probably prescribe a pain killer (not your usual type, something like gabapentin)

Typical RSI, Normally due to awkward position of wrist as mostly we use laptop while on bed or in awkward placement. A very good alternative is to get a cheap Pen Tablet or Apple Magic Pad. So you won't have to force your wrist to hold mouse.

Always keep your arm parallel to floor and below or at the level of heart to allow proper blood flow. Remember you can injure your muscles/nerves by repeating small unnatural movements.

Also get a support glove, easily available at medical stores. And stop playing FPS Games for some time.

A very good alternative is to get a cheap Pen Tablet or Apple Magic Pad. So you won't have to force your wrist to hold mouse.
If I get a tablet, the very little time when I keep myself away from PC and laptop, will go to tablet. I can take it with me during washroom activities to read some reviews in peace.

You took it too literally, I am talking about a cheap Wacom Tablet, Not the android or iPad. Its same as Apple Magic Pad but includes Pen and Touch both. So you can use PC while holding a pen or just use touch. Much better than using mouse for normal usage.

Get Goliathus Speed pad :) It is very soft + very fat that will give you a lot of comfort while using the mouse.

I have a blood clot on my wrist bone, Its been 10 years am using a desktop computer almost daily but I dont get any pain though

I had the same problem and this is what I did to get better:

1 - Change the mouse pad. Like others mentioned, get one with the gel wrist support. I got a cheap Rs100 pad with gel wrist support.

2 - Wear a wrist support. I got the nike ones so they dont look bad when you wear in public. You can get complete wrist support or just even a sweatband to cover your wrist. You just need something to restrict movement of your wrist.

The solution to fix this is to give minimum movement on your wrist so it heals all the damage done. Wearing a wrist support restricts movement and gives time to heal.

I continued my usual usage of the mouse just making sure I am not moving my wrist a lot. Within few days Alhumdulilah I noticed a good change and in a month's time I was pretty much healed. But I continued the use of the sweat band for a month or so atleast and now I don't have any pain.


Also note if this is left unattended for a long term, the pain can become so severe that an operation maybe required.

I'm already using this sort of mouse pad to support my wrist but its making no difference :

I have this exact pad but with transformer skin so it's more comfortable :p Are you sure you rest your wrist on the soft cushion and what is your soft cushion made of ? My wrist pad is made of jello so it is super comfortable

Yes, wrist always rest on the cushion but I dont know what material it is inside the cusion. Since there is pain in my hand so I dont feel comfortable in any position now a days.

Dude rest the wrist! (it rhymes lol)

But seriously u need to stop moving ur wrist immediately. Go get the wrist band first thing today! Keep it on for a few days. If u have to use the mouse, then move the arm and not the wrist. It will be awkward but you have to give some rest to your joints!

This is definitely not something you can ignore..
Its an obviously compressing your Median Nerve producing so called Carpel tunnel syndrome.
You need to wear a wrist band, support your elbow while using mouse or change your posture to avoid excessive extension at wrist joint. Don't ignore it or else you will end up needing a surgery with in a couple of years time.

You NEED TO REST YOUR WRIST FOR AT LEAST A WEEK.!!!! IF pain resolves then well and good. but if pain is persistent then you need to see a Neurologist.!!

Rest, mild exercise/stretch the right shoulder,elbow, wrist and joints of fingers with hands. Try to not use your right hand for PC for a few days, use left hand instead. Go all keyboard or use the mouse with left hand. After a few days when you start using your right hand, try to setup your table so that your the weight of the whole limb is supported at forearm and the wrist is straight. For example, I have a slide in/out tray about 1/2 inch lower to my mouse pad where is rest my forearm, and after every few hours I stretch my joints from shoulder to fingers(Note: Don't stretch hard! Do it lightly). Its very likely that you'll be alright but if not, you really do need to see a doctor.

from a week I'm also feeling severe pain in my wrist I even can't move the wrist downwords as it causes too much pain I think the same case with me of excessive use of computers but my job is such what can i do?
