how to check lcd monitor dvi port ? is it working or not

can any one tell me how i check my dvi port is ok..? i have a pure digital port ie dvi-d (dual link)and i can take output from vga and have dvi-d converter which can be conect by my lcd dvi d port . my question is how i know that is it my lcd port is broken or connector which im using is faulted

That converter is meant to convert from digital to analogue while you are trying to convert analogue into digital which would not work. You can use that converter on PC side to convert a DVI to VGA but cannot use it on LCD side. So you either need a VGA to DVI cable OR a DVI cable. In case of DVI Cable, you need to have a DVI port with your system using some GPU.

i have an gpu which has hdmi dvi and vga ports and i have lcd which has vga and dvi d port can u sugest me which cable i would by? like hdmi to dvi or something like that..
