Internet: Nayatel is the best in Islamabad I guess.
Celllurar: Depends purely on your choice. All of them are the same and none offer 3G services.
Others will give you tips.

It's not as bad as media portrays it to be. Just don't talk about Religion, sex or Kashmir and you'll be fine.

In my opinion, Mobilink or Telenor have the best services but it all depends on your personal choice but just don't go for ZONG, it's crap, all others are fine.

Go for Nayatel (Internet)
Cellular provider depends on your needs :) The packages here are a lot...
As mentioned above, don't insult the religion or try NOT to counter the opinions of others (Many, unfortunately... will not talk with logic)

Islamabad is pretty safe! :)

Hi, first of all, welcome to Pakistan in Advance. Secondly, you don't have to worry much in Islamabad, it is pretty safe city and people are pretty open minded.

Now to answer your questions.

1. Nayatel is the best internet service provider in Islamabad/Rawalpindi. You should go for it. Their installion charges are a bit high but service is the best in Pakistan.
2. Telenor is pretty good.
3. Islamabad is pretty safe city. You will witness a lot of checkposts though. The city is clean with wide open roads and rarely has traffic issues. It is also extremely beautiful. You can also go for hiking on mountains, which are pretty close. There are also fast food joints like Hardees or Coffee/Breakfast places. Foreigners also visit these places frequently.
4. Well, obey the traffic rules. Observe the Pakistani laws. Just have fun :).
5. Pakistan is totally opposite of the image shown by Western media. Don't believe what you hear about us. Most importantly, don't go into a religious argument like about sects etc.

I hope you find it a beautiful and clean city as i did. I lived for about 4 years in Islamabad during my studies. :)

Amazing! Welcome!
Don't worry, there is absolutely no danger, Pakistan is a very safe and peaceful country, just like the others said, it's not like what foreign media shows it to be, People live normal, good lives.
1. As for internet, if you've got extra money, directly get Nayatel.
2. Go for uFone (goes well with your iPhone :D)
3. Absolutely no need, Pakistan is a very nice country, especially Islamabad. I, too live in Islamabad myself and there are MANY chinese, Malaysians in my town. No problem. Just keep a VERY cheap mobile with you when you go out. Don't take out your expensive iPhone 5 out in the open.
4. Live normally, awesomely.
5. Yes, we ARE religious but not like what media shows. We don't 'kill' if somebody makes fun of our religion. We are also very tolerant. No problem. Like I said, there are MANY Chinese, Malaysians, (possibly)Japanese around here, you'll fit right in!

As for the hijab wearing part. You will be surprised to see the burger awam of Islamabad. They wear tight jeans and shirts, even women. Hijab is not necessary to wear but women wear it if they want.

Welcome to PG and Advance welcome to Pakistan(Islamabad).
You will definitely find quite pleasant living here.
The thing about women covering their faces is not very crucial in our society here. It's a matter of own choice and closeness to religion.
You will find people quite friendly here.

Do visit some other places like Lahore or Murree. Murree is specially beautiful this time of the year and it is relatively close to Islamabad.

Okay okay. I suppose that's true. But you gotta agree, Karachi is a bad choice to pick as a city to live in.
Btw, during my stay in Islamabad, I did notice that the electricity and water and gas situation over there is worse than it is in Karachi. Stayed in G11/3 so dunno if it's sector specific or the general situation.
I lived for about 2 years in G-9/4. Rarely faced issue with water or gas. It is sector specific issue though, i know about it.

You are right, Karachi is certainly not a ideal city to live in. That's why i moved to Islamabad for studies even though it was pretty far away for me.
